Art, food, community & innovation: Tate Modern's role at the heart of urban revitalisation http://blog.britishcouncil.org/2014/07/17/museums-can-play-a-role-in-urban-regeneration/
We tend to think of museums as places we can visit to look at valuable things, for example art. But they can have positive effects well beyond their exhibiting function. Donald Hyslop, Head of Regeneration and Partnerships at London's Tate Modern, tells us how the museum has regenerated a whole neighbourhood since it first opened in 2000.

Introduction

I’m an Executive Architect at IBM specialising in emerging technologies and Smarter Cities. You can find out more about my work on my blog the Urban Technologist.

For an overview of the content on my blog, please refer to the article "Seven Steps to a Smarter City". A good introduction to my views on Smarter Cities is my TEDxWarwick talk, "Smarter Stories for Better Cities", a discussion of which can be found here.

I am in the process of capturing re-usable examples of successful approaches to Smarter Cites initiatives and documenting them as "Design Patterns" and "Design Principles" for Smarter Cities.

You can connect to me on Twitter as @dr_rick; or contact me through Linked-In where I'll respond to connection requests from people I know, or that are accompanied by a message that starts a meaningful discussion.

The opinions on this site are my own.
