Dear Dharma-Sangha Disciples,

Happy Guru Day! Today is an important guru day – the parinirvana anniversary of my root guru, the 8th Khamtrul Rinpoche. As you are all aware, In Vajrayana, Guru Sadhana is the center of our spiritual practice. Guru is regarded not mere as an ordinary human being who teaches us the dharma of what to be adopted and what to be discarded, or the knowledge of virtues and non-virtues. Far deeper than that, the word "Guru" in Vajrayana is referring to a source of wisdom, compassion and power that able to guide us on the path to enlightenment through bestowing Abhisheka (initiation) and Adhishtana (blessings).

The Vajrayana practices can only be commenced after Abhisheka is granted by a guru. Through which, one is introduced to his or her own karmic connected deity, along with thorough instructions on the Developing and Completing stage. After that, one must endeavor to sail across the ocean of samsara to the self-recognition town of nirvana with the precise maneuver of keeping perfect samayas. This is the only possible way to attain enlightenment in one life time.

The Tantra taught that the Lord of Mandala is deity, which innerly is no different from the guru. The guru and the deity are always inseparable. Enlightened means realizing the inner co-emergent primordial wisdom. The key to realize it is, the connection through the guru – the one who confers empowerment, explains the Tantras, bestows oral instructions, and most importantly granting the pointing-out instruction. The only way to realize it is, through relying on an authentic master with genuine devotion and pure vision and upholding the 26 samayas related to guru. This can be gradually developed along the path of practice and through staying connected with the guru for continual instructions and guidance. Devotion means, your joy in staying close and connected with the guru’s inexhaustible displays and endeavors, unhindered by time and distance. Despising the guru is an obstacle for practice, and it hinders spiritual advancement. In fact, it will destroy the seed of enlightenment. If such negativity ever arises, without any delay, immediately pray to the guru in the form of Vajrasatva is of utmost importance.

Being good practitioners means being truthful with self. Sometimes we even attempt to fool or cheat ourselves by pretending that our practice is progressing well, and we are a fine practitioner. This kind of self-boosting and self-deceit is a real illusion. It is a pathetic self-distortion. We, Dharma-Sangha must recognize this. Otherwise, we end up to be the biggest loser unknowingly.

If one thinks that they can get enlightened by just engaging in a deity practice without relying on a guru’s blessings, they are mixing the notion with the common path of Mahayana tradition, for which it requires millions of lifetimes to attain enlightenment.

All accomplishments are connected to the guru’s blessings. And blessings originated from an unbroken lineage are the sole guarantee for one to realize the nature of mind and attain enlightenment within this very life. It's not diligence, not renunciation, not compassion, not long retreat, not mantra recitation. It is the unbroken lineage blessings through one’s spiritual guide. And blessings can only be obtained through fervent devotion. That is why Guru Yoga is the foremost practice in Vajrayana, particularly in our lineage.

Staying devoted to the guru and graciously being accepted in his heart is essential. Eventually, with the guru's impartial loving kindness, one enters into the Guru Mandala and become a heart disciple. Only through that one will swiftly obtain blessings. This is what we all wish for in Vajrayana. I hope you take time to contemplate on this, and keep it firm at heart.

Lastly, I would like to request all Dharma-Sangha disciples who have completed Ngondro or those who are in the stage of Guru Yoga, to add, “Lama Sang Rin Ma” composed by Gyalwa Gotsangpa into your daily practice. Lama Sang Rin Ma is quintessential text prayed by all enlightened masters of our lineage over 800 years for millions of time.

Happy Guru Day!

Choekyi Gonpo,

My Dear Friends and Dharma-Sangha Disciples,

Happy New Year! I am happy that together, we have walk through a significant 2017.

During this year, I am delighted to see that more and more of my disciples are practicing with advancement. I deeply believe that compassion and bodhicitta are the foundation and method of all practices. I sincerely hope that every one of you, through long-term practice and accumulation of merit, that you will be able to integrate Dharma more and more into your daily life and workplace. And that your spiritual practices and Dharma are capable of nourishing your mind and soul more deeply, benefiting each and every one of you.

I also want to thank you all dearly for your hard works and selfless supports in the Inauguration and Opening of our Dechen Choekhor this year. I am thanking not just for your support in the construction of the monastery, but also your invaluable contributions to our yearly prayers which are fundamental to the continuation and thriving of our lineage practices.

In the past twenty-five years, the construction of this monastery was my foremost responsibility and task. In these twenty-five years, there were countless wakeful and restless nights, incalculable hardships and challenges, innumerable difficulties and setbacks ... but that have never shaken my determination to rebuild the monastery. Until now, I could still recall clearly my root guru - Adeu Rinpoche’s words: "You must rebuild Dechen Choekhor; it is the head of Drukpa Kargyu. Without the head, Drukpa Kargyu only left with mere body. Without a leader, it has no life force.”

I strive over two decades to fulfill the aspirations and instructions of my root guru. I spent more than twenty years to rebuild the monastery of great importance to Drukpa Kargyu. I suppose this is one of the highest offering of my faith and devotion to my guru. It is the unsurpassed path of my spiritual practice. Here, I hope my disciples too, like myself, could profoundly realize the quintessence of Vajrayana practice. Through completely relying trusting your guru, one enters into the correct unmistaken path of practice.

Well, now, the rebuilding of Dechen Choekhor monastery has finally completed. She is like a kind beautiful mother, always waiting and welcoming the returns of her children with open arms. As the New Year begins, let us share the joy of spiritual practices, soothes each other worries, and enjoys the warmth like a big family.

Last but not least, I want to thanks Lily, whom with tremendous courage and devotion, dedicated her body, speech and mind into serving and fulfilling the guru’s wishes. And to my team and all of you, my dear friends and students across the globe, who have for many years, worked tirelessly and selflessly to assist my Dharma activities. In the future, this team will take on more dharma works and responsibilities to serve our big Dharma-Sangha family. Please have faith in your spiritual journey, trust your crew and support their works.

May each of us have a meaningful 2018. May the Dharma be with us. My blessings and protection are with you all, always!
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
