Halloween wedding ideas ... that aren't cheesy! (https://goo.gl/7M49ip)

If you want to incorporate more gothic elements into your big day, October weddings are the perfect time to do it! Of course, a lot of Halloween decor tends to look childish or overly commercial, but there is definitely a way to elegantly include a bit of ghoul into your event!

For starters, be sure to stay away from anything plastic or bright, bright orange! Instead, choose colors like gold, orange, white, and black as a subtle inspiration.

If you want to show off a few skulls or skeletons, the trick is to not overdo them. Also, you might want to add something to them (such as jewels) to make them fit into a dressier event.

This slideshow (https://goo.gl/7M49ip) strikes the perfect balance between fun and elegant ... oh, and be sure to add lots and lots of candles to your Halloween wedding.

Wedding Etiquette: Be sure to send out your hand-written thank you notes promptly!

Have you heard the myth that you have up to a year to mail thank-you notes to your guests? If so, let us set the record straight: That is a lie!

Don't postpone this important task. Stay on top of it and write your thank you notes within a week or two (three at the most) of receiving any gift, including engagement and bridal shower gifts.

Getting your thank you notes in the mail promptly shows your guests that you have good manners and that you appreciate their generosity; it will also help you avoid the possibility of forgetting who the giver was in the first place.

No excuses, either. We have heard some couples say they wait 3-6 months so they can include photos of the wedding in the thank you note. The best thing to do would be to send the thank you notes promptly (hand-written, of course), and then when you have photos, send those separately.

For those of you who are already married, how long did you wait to send thank you notes out after your wedding?

It's the little things that matter the most... (https://goo.gl/uf1R3x)

Have you ever thought about what makes a relationship work long-term? Well, if you are planning a wedding, we should certainly hope that you have given it some thought!

We were thinking about it today and wanted to share some pre-wedding advice. Of course, every marriage is different, but we especially loved the story and advice that author Jessica Crooke shared on LightWorkers[dot]com. She said, "The first time I went to the freezer and got a bowl of ice cream and didn't bring two spoons back to the couch to share with my husband, his disappointment and hurt was real. Now, this may seem silly to others, but for him, the fact that we had always shared one bowl was a little gesture in our relationship that was obviously cherished, even if I didn't know to what extent."

The moral of the story? It's the little things that matter. The little gestures. The little words. The little affirmations of love.

Here's the only marriage advice you will ever need: (part 2) (https://goo.gl/a4Q32e)

We shared some tips in our last post to answer the question: "What makes a marriage successful?" Today, we wanted to share a few more from some real couples who have the answers:

Make time for date night.
Research shows that partners were about 3.5 times more likely to report being happy in their relationship if they participated in weekly "couple time" (a.k.a. "date night").

Log off social media.
A 2015 British survey from a law firm found that one in seven people have gone as far as considering divorce because of their partner's social media behavior.

Don't get divorced.
Divorce let divorce be an option just because things get a little tough. Work on your marriage.

Here's the only marriage advice you will ever need: (part 1) (https://goo.gl/a4Q32e)

If you are planning to get married, the thought may have crossed your mind ... "What makes a marriage successful?"

It's a great question ... and some real couples have the answers. Here are a few of them:

It's okay to argue ... but you need to learn how to do it right.
The key is to be someone who fights fairly. Stay on the conflict at hand--don't throw every argument you've ever had into this disagreement. And, don't say things you don't mean.

Work on keeping the lines of communication open.
One test to try? See if you and your partner can enjoy a two-hour, device-free dinner alone together and be both interesting and interested in each other.

Prioritize your partner.
Ask yourself, "What can I do today to make my partner's life a little easier or more enjoyable?"

Real-Life Wedding Planning Tips: (https://goo.gl/AwkWcJ)

Here are some terrific ideas to help make your future wedding planning just a little easier:

- Create a wedding timeline and set up regular meeting times with your future spouse to brainstorm ideas, keep on task, and even have heated debates, if necessary.

- Don't worry about being the most unique. Remember: sometimes something is popular because it's awesome.

- Make sure you keep your life workload and your wedding planning workload balanced. Make sure your partner is taking on his or her share, delegate to friends and family, and hire a wedding planner!

- When it comes to major decisions, make them, and then don't look back. Don't constantly second guess yourself or you will never be happy with any decision you make.

When it comes to planning a wedding, delegate, delegate, delegate!

There really do seem to be infinite numbers of things to do and decisions to make when it comes to planning a wedding ... and, trying to do it all by yourself is a recipe for making yourself crazy!

Fortunately, it doesn't need to be that way. You know all those friends and family members that have offered to help? Instead of blowing them off, let them make some of the decisions for you!

Initially, you might think that you need to make every decision yourself ... but, you really don't. Assign a friend to pick the last dance song, assign another which booze to serve, and assign a third to choose items for your registry (pick one with good taste!).

Trusting your loved ones to help make decisions on your behalf can be very freeing ... and it can allow you to focus on the details that you really, really care about.

Planning a Second Wedding? (https://goo.gl/88qqKx)

We are often asked questions about second weddings, so we thought this article on Brides would be a helpful resource for those of you with questions.

Here are a few of the bigger questions that many couples have when planning a second wedding:

Regarding Big Weddings ... Are they OK ... or not?
Honestly, this is up to you. Some things to consider would be whether it is a first marriage for one of you, how long it has been since your previous wedding, and whether or not there are children involved. Do what feels most comfortable for you.

Regarding Wearing White ... Should you ... or not?
Everyone agrees that the bride should go for it. It is your wedding day ... wear whatever you would like!

Uh Oh! What should you do if your partner's guest list is much bigger or smaller than yours? (https://goo.gl/QzKFuD)

If your partner's family is much bigger or smaller than your own, you could have very different ideas of how many guests should be invited to your wedding. This is a good idea to discuss your priorities, your budget, and the type of wedding each of you envisions.

Depending on your venue, location, budget, etc., one of you may have to seriously consider changing your guest lists to accommodate your event.

It can be helpful to start by creating tiered lists of guests by priority. For example, close family and friends first. You might also find it helpful to establish some rules, such as only inviting people you have both met, or that only engaged or married guests will get a "plus one." Of course, you can always make exceptions, but this can be a helpful tactic to start getting your guest list manageable.

Remember that your parents might want to invite guests as well, so before you reach out to ask them for it, give them a number of how many people they can extend invitations to.
