BLIND LULI – A1103375 Manhattan NY Super Urgent
SPAYED FEMALE, TAN, CHIHUAHUA SH, 10 yrs
OWNER SUR Reason ALLERGIES
I came in with SOY #K17-089417.

Sex: Female, reported spayed. Estimated age: Reported 10 years old. Passive, stands in place, allows most handling.
Severe dental disease
Cataracts and corneal opacity
Heart murmur
Medial patellar luxation – likely arthritis in many joints
Short-term prognosis: Fair-poor
Luli is a 10 year old spayed Chihuahua mix. Her owner got her from the Dominican Republic. Her family has to surrender her because they have developed allergies. Luli has been blind for about 2 years. The last time she was at the vet was under a year ago.
She is relaxed and playful with him. She plays gently with adults and children. She has lived with another dog, Soy, who is a 10 year old Shar Pei. They have lived together their whole lives. They are relaxed and respectful of each other. Luli is getting older so she doesn’t play much with other dogs, but when she does she is gentle. Luli has lived with cats in the home and is relaxed/respectful of them.

Luli is described as affectionate, shy, friendly, and mellow. Her energy level is medium. Her owners love that she is affectionate and friendly with children. These days she just loves to relax. At home, she stays in the same room. She likes to play with squeaky toys and chew bones. She doesn’t like to play games. She has been kept mostly indoors. She sleeps in a little bed that is next to Soy’s bed.

Bill Paxton, one of my favorite unsung actors, prolific in the action movie genre, has died. And yet, I don't see hundreds of posts sharing this news with "Game over, man!" as the headline. Copy editors are sleepwalking through their jobs, again.

Today, +Russell Williams and I played our first miniature wargame in probably a decade or more. We set up a table at the local comic/game shop (Alchemist's Cove Games & Comics in Schuylkill Haven, PA) and played a Star Wars battle, using old Galoob "Micro Machine" figures and the Stargrunt II rule set.

The scenario was based on the "Hammer of Destiny" scenario from the old West End Games' Star Wars Miniatures Battles supplement, "Imperial Entanglement," adjusted to take place in a flooded river delta, with the rebels already having captured the disabled repulsor tank and in the process of repairing it when a second Imperial assault materialized. Russ played the Rebel Scum and I played the glorious Empire.

Imperial forces had a veteran Stormtrooper squad and a veteran Imperial Army squad, each of 10 men, with Fresh fatigue and a Medium mission motivation.

Rebel forces had three technicians and a reduced-strength commando squad at Veteran level, at a Tired fatigue level, but a High mission motivation, plus two independent scouts on Speeder Bikes, both at veteran level.

The battle looked closer than it really was, as Russ managed to repair the tank's repulsor drive in the first round, and I had no suitable anti-armor weaponry. I did manage to knock out both speeder bikes and most of his commando squad, while half of my Stormtroopers were wiped out, and the Army squad suffered 90% casualties (but without breaking!). Ultimately, Russ won by driving the tank off the flooded battlefield.

A volunteer writes: Zander is a big goofball in a statuesque body! He’s super friendly and playful and even his teeth are cute. He is easy to handle, seems housebroken, eagerly sits for treats (and has an adorable anticipation face) and seems to want to play with other dogs we’ve seen. Zander is absolutely head over heels in love with TOYS: he lights up at any toy he can get his paws on, sometimes has wishful thinking and tries to use non-toys as toys, and could start selling tickets to let people watch him play with them. He throws them for himself, spontaneously play bows at them, and rolls around on the ground with them as if his tennis ball might give him a belly rub! But you don’t have to be filled with stuffing and a squeaker to earn Zander’s devotion, he’s just as smitten with butt rubs! Come meet this sweet boy at Brooklyn ACC and I promise you’ll leave with a smile!

A PUPPY WHO NEEDS NEW LOVE IN HIS LIFE~CUPID
Brooklyn NY Rescue Only TO BE DESTROYED FEB 23
A volunteer writes: Although so quiet in his kennel, it was clear he was hoping I’d pick him next for a walk. Our boy is stunning — long legs, elegant, gorgeous face, perfect weight…I mean he could be the cover of Doggie GQ. He’s that handsome. Our first stop once outside was Cupid taking care of ‘business’, and off we go to the park. He does pull on the leash, so a harness and/or some leash training will help. Stand up hugs and kisses, and all was forgiven, as this awesome dog won my heart. Off leash in a pen, he prances like a thoroughbred horse, his long, elegant legs high stepping as if to music. Cupid loved playing with a ball, got the zoomies briefly, and was so obviously happy I hated bringing him back to his kennel. Clearly a cherished companion before he joined us, Cupid is hoping to find a new person or family to love and take care of.
