Pre-Keeneland Sale Update: Orb’s Progeny Become Red Hot With Late Summer Stakes and Juvenile Wins
Claiborne Farm stallion Orb, homebred by Phipps Stable in partnership with Jockey Club chairman Stuart S. Janney III, has heated up as a stallion since the beginning of August, adding key stakes wins and a half dozen juvenile winners to his progeny portfolio. Given the timing, one would expect his impressive book of 44 yearlings (21 colts and 23 fillies) to get a significant sales boost at the Keeneland September Yearlings Sales, which begin tomorrow (September 10).

MR SPEAKER'S BELMONT DERBY WIN
MGSW Millionaire Is Producing Promising Yearlings

Phipps-bred and -raced multiple-graded-stakes-winning millionaire MR SPEAKER's first crop of beautiful yearlings are hitting the sales rings this year and doing very well (no surprise). Take a look back at Mr Speaker's $1,250,000 Grade 1 Belmont Derby win in 2014 at http://bit.ly/Phipps-MrSpeaker

One of the highlights of the Fasig-Tipton New York-bred Preferred Yearling Sale is a gorgeous promising brown Mr Speaker colt (out of Meiann—First Samurai) consigned by RFHF Bloodstock in Barn 9. Broodmare Meiann's New York-bred colt named Country Code (from City Zip) sold for $170,000 at the 2017 Fasig Tipton Saratoga New York-bred Preferred Yearling Sale. He was pinhooked and sold at the OBS - Ocala Breeders' Sales of Two-Year-Olds in Training in March 2017 for $360,000.

MR SPEAKER (Pulpit—Salute [a daughter of Personal Ensign], by Unbridled) entered stud in the U.S. at Lane's End Farm in 2016. Mr Speaker had the highest-priced colt ($180,000) by any first-crop sire at Fasig-Tipton's July 2018 Preferred Yearling sale in Lexington, Ky.

According to Lane's End Farm owner Bill Farish, Mr Speaker has "a great first book" of mares and is well represented this year. Mr Speaker's New York-bred colt out of Meiann is a good example of that.

On the track, Mr Speaker won four graded stakes (including G1 Belmont Derby Inv. S., G2 Commonwealth Cup Stakes, G3 Lexington Stakes, G3 Dania Beach Stakes) with career earnings of more than $1.2 million. Mr Speaker is inbred to Phipps’ Buckpasser – “one of the most legendary names is racing and breeding” according to BloodHorse – and comes from a strong Phipps female family with 15 graded stakes winners in its first three dams.
