Researchers are investigating new ways to charge devices using alternate sources of power, such as crowd sounds, ambient wireless signals and even a person’s own sweat or urine (really). While these battery-charging methods are years from reaching the marketplace, the important research could lead to new methods of power storage. In addition, both developers and enterprise IT managers may gain more freedom to create and use portable devices that can run for far longer periods of time, and can be used in locations where easy-to-access electricity is in short supply. http://cainc.to/VnRjon
Forget plugging in. We'll charge devices with our own bodies.

From White House officials to city mayors, government leaders are jumping aboard the big-data train. They’re soliciting reports, holding conferences, hiring chief data officers and launching data-crunching competitions. But the truth is few bureaucrats are schooled in the language of machine learning, data mining, predictive analytics and cybersecurity. The University of Chicago wants to help. Last fall the school started a two-year joint master’s degree program in computer science and public policy. http://cainc.to/lSiWcG #BigData
Universities arm a new class of government leaders with computer science and analytics skills.

What is the mainframe’s relevance in the application economy? Michael Madden takes us ‘Back to the Future’ to 1985 and explores how the mainframe is a long way from how we knew it, but its value remains the same in driving the platforms of the future: http://cainc.to/1SLEDX
The year is 1985. Instead of taking the time-traveling DeLorean into the year 2015 to straighten out the future of the McFly family, Doc, Marty…

While it is extremely likely that I would recommend Hertz (gold service is a definite plus), this rental experience was poor. Since the change to checkout, where Hertz chooses to print the contracts at the gate, I spent 45 minutes waiting to leave the Hertz garage after arriving at my car. My car also had sticky residue on the dash and on the controls on the left side of the vehicle - looked as if someone spilled a latte or some other sweet sticky coffee and it was never cleaned.
