In this video he calls bullshit on all the affirmative yapping about creativity and reminds us that while THINKING about making stuff is inspiring, light, fun, actually DOING stuff is work. And that willingness to work, to be uncomfortable, to struggle is what distinguishes artists from amateurs. Amen.

Amy Poehler articulates the distinction btwn "career" and "creativity." Spot on:

“You have to care about your work but not about the result. You have to care about how good you are and how good you feel, but not about how good people think you are or how good people think you look… Treat your career like a bad boyfriend. It likes it when you don’t depend on it. It will chase you if you act like other things (passion, friendship, family, longevity) are more important to you.”

“Creativity is connected to your passion, that light inside you that drives you. That joy that comes when you do something you love. That is the juicy stuff that lubricates our lives and helps us feel less alone in the world. Your creativity is not a bad boyfriend. It is a really warm older Hispanic lady who has a beautiful laugh and loves to hug.”

Community #makerspaces need a public access television type of federal mandate. access to tools and distribution beyond universities and other closed institutions

from wiki:
Federal mandate by the FCC[edit]
Hundreds of Public-access television production facilities were launched in the 1970s after the Federal Communications Commission issued its Third Report and Order[10] in 1972, which required all cable systems in the top 100 U.S. television markets to offer three access-channels, one each for public, educational, and local government use. The rule was amended in 1976 to require that cable systems in communities with 3,500 or more subscribers set aside up to 4 cable TV channels and provide access to equipment and studios for use by the public.[10]

I'm grateful for friends and family--not only their love but that so many of them do such interesting work that makes the world better.

I'm grateful for the work I do--I get to help people grow and they help me grow too.

I'm grateful for Ithaca--this tiny town has a lot to offer. Ithaca Generator, Press Bay Alley, Community School of Music and Arts, The Ink Shop Printmaking Center, Standard Art Supply, GreenStar Natural Foods Market, all the farms. Incredible.

And I'm grateful for folks who dedicate themselves to creating justice and beauty all over the world. Keep going. We need you.
