A lot of cool books on the street tonight. Took the more hipster version of A Canterbury Tales.

Just walked through the Opera House green room. I didn't recognise anyone. Even stranger, they didn't seem to recognise me.

http://www.ted.com/talks/louise_fresco_on_feeding_the_whole_world.html

Key points:
- We can feed so many people only because of increases in production due to improved farming technology.
- Small scale local food production is a luxury for those of us who are rich enough to afford it.
- Rather than try to go back to traditional farming methods, we should use scientific/technological advances to provide sustainable, high yield production methods.

My thoughts:
Small scale local food production is an important part of the solution, but can never be the entire solution. Whatever the scale/locality of the production, advances in science and technology will always be necessary.

A blog of one of my early cycling trips. Short and very wet.

I just changed from Kubuntu to Ubuntu 12.04. I've always been a KDE man, but I give Unity haters permission to kill themselves. It seems great so far.

Is closing down a couple of streets overkill for what looks like a relatively minor accident?

Yeah I take it back. It didn't look bad enough for someone to have died, but it happens.

Two vinyl albums I picked up which someone had left outside the front door of the block.

I thought of The Saints as a punk band, but this didn't sound punk to me. According to Wikipedia The Saints released a punk album even before the Sex Pistols, but by 1982 when they released Casablanca they had split and continued as a pop punk band. Anyway I didn't mind it. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/I_Thought_This_Was_Love,_But_This_Ain't_Casablanca

I'm yet to listen to Voyager, but I suspect it will end up back on the street from whence it came. The cover art is good though.

Maybe I speak too soon. My first thought is that Voyager is reminiscent of English prog rock bands like Camel or The Alan Parsons Project. Their wikipedia entry is very short, but they seem to share a connection with a couple of quality bands (ELP and Marillion).

...A few songs in and it seems pretty average, but maybe it will be OK when the turntable is looking for something listenable but a bit subdued. Sometimes it just can't handle all the classic rock it gets hit with.

Another one of my favorite days on the bike - in the Julian Alps in Slovenia in 2008.
