Why should copyright be limited to the time period after the work is created? I have no incentive to create anything new if the path isn't cleared by preemptive copyright.
 
Someone whisper "retroactive copyright" into their fuzzy little ears and watch what treaties are pushed..
 
I would trade infinite copyright in exchange for required registration and property taxation. Don't pay your taxes and watch you work forever go into the public domain.
