Good location for tourism. Nice rooms with modern arrangements, though small. The Wi-Fi was serviceable, but quite slow. The staff was friendly and in general my experience was good, but you can't avoid feeling you overpaid, even though it's New York. There's a convenient restaurant with interesting food on the ground floor, but it's a bit pricey.

Great outdoor rooftop space with a nice view from Midtown East. People definitely come here for the setting as opposed to the drinks. This place used to get overcrowded, but now they have a system where you have to sign in with a hostess, so the flow is a little bit more controlled. A nice setting to chill, but there's not enough seating, they should put more high-top tables out for people to stand around. Cocktails weren't as good as I remembered. This is a good place to start the night or to take a visiting out-of-towner for the view, but not sure if anything else will be very impressive.

Amazing views of the whole city! We stayed in the hotel below, so had no trouble getting past the (lengthy) queues downstairs. Drinks are on the pricey side, but a great place to start a Summer night in NYC.

I was staying there with a group of my colleagues in August 2014 for just two nights. We were sharing double rooms and I should say that I’ve never seen such a small hotel room before, it was literally like a train compartment. But room size wasn’t the worst part of our experience there, one of my colleagues underwear was stolen from her room when we were out. There was no hotel manager or any employee who could have helped her to solve this problem except receptionist. But the only thing receptionist asked was not to call the police, she convinced my colleague that the hotel will either find the clothes or compensate its rather expensive price. Nevertheless, as far as I know, now that almost one month had passed, the hotel didn’t even contact her, they probably think that incident is forgotten. Think twice before choosing this hotel...

Had a great stay at the pod 39 fantastic facilities - the rooms are very cosy but feel just right for what they were - I would recommend unloading your suitcase into the drawer and clothes rail provided. Location is great 5-10 mins away from the central station which is great to get anywhere in New York via the subway and about 10-15 mins away from Times Square so very good stay 😄

Having previously tried POD 51 we were keen to give POD 39 a try. We booked for a total of 5 nights and stayed in a full POD which comprised of a small bathroom, a double bed and a desk. Like the other hotel, compact but more than comfortable. The room was clean and had everything we needed. Like POD 50, 39 is all about location. You could not ask for a better location. Close to grand central for the metro and to the main shops on fifth avenue. Local amenities near by where also great so for me this is the key benefit of this hotel. It is good value given the location. The other thing we liked was the roof top bar. You get a great view but the service pretty much sucked. They had no soft drinks so I ordered a beer. The bearded bar man then handed me a beer that he had poured for a previous customer and that had been standing there for quite some time. So this guy clearly didn't take much pride in his work and it let down the experience. All in all a good hotel if you want something affordable and in a great location.

The food is overpriced and the service was aggressive. We asked if they could cater for a veggie friend, after they had run out of options, we were swiftly told where we were and that the chef would find substitutions offensive. To top everything off we were given foul margaritas before we left that were made using dish water - the waitress was too slow/nonchalant when we complained so we walked out.

I came at 12 AM on a Monday and it was POPPIN. Oh, New York, the city that never sleeps, I love you and hate you. Last call was around 12:15. It was even busier on a Thurs! The rooftop is beautiful. It has a Southwest TexMex classy feel to it. When you take the elevator up, you're first surrounded by a small loungey area with a big couch and round table - the feeling was warm and inviting. Take some steps out and you have beautiful outdoor lighting and a nice terrace with ample seating and standing room. I was scared I'd be guilt-tripped to have to buy a drink to be at the rooftop but it wasn't the case. HONESTLY though, I was underwhelmed by the view, I imagined a nice overlook of the city but you really only see some residential area (not nice lights) and then an oh-kay view of the Chrysler building. I opted not to take photos since they weren't worth taking. However, it is nice to just sit back and relax. If I didn't have to work, I would have loved to sit here and read in the daytime.. Beers are about $7, cocktails $14. Expected of a rooftop bar!
