Maybe I'm not cool enough to fully appreciate it, but this museum always overwhelms me. It would take multiple days to feel like I've seen everything - which some might say is a pro, but I just often leave a little exhausted. Everything starts to look the same. In my opinion, this museum has ramped up its marketing efforts. Bus and street ads lure you in with eye catching and well presented special exhibits, but I don't feel like the actual exhibits live up to the promise. I get they want to bring in traffic and appeal to a wider audience, but I think how they present the material should better match the tone and theme of the ads.

The Asian Art Museum has really great exhibits. I went to see the Terracotta warriors earlier this year, and it was interesting to learn about its history. It was a little difficult to navigate the exhibit because it was in separate rooms, and you had to go in a particular order which didn't create an even flow. But that's a minor detail. The permanent collection is worth visiting too. And I would skip the restaurant as the museum is close to Little Saigon where you can get delicious cuisines from various regions in Asia. Or if you're there on a Wednesday, you can visit Heart of the City Farmers Market located at UN Plaza nearby. Food trucks are at UN Plaza Tuesdays and Thursdays.

I love this museum. Free first Sundays are a great opportunity to visit if you haven't been. They also have a good Instagram account that features new exhibits and related news.

Just in case of Pacific Ocean fog is entering the San Francisco Bay, I'd recommend you to spend a fantastic day at one of California's highligths. The Asian Art Museum is a wonderful oasis in the middle of a hectic City.
