We're almost there! Freaking Nuclear Fusion! BECOME EXCITED!

So just as a TL;DR, they got a tiny fuel pellet to output more energy than went into it, but not more energy than it took to run the 192 lasers used to squeeze it. To do that they just need twice the squeezy force from the lasers, which gets you like 4 time as much energy 'cause math/physics.

What happened? Why did humanity lose its sense of wonder and excitement about exploring the universe? When did we fall to petty bickering and political stagnation?

The solution is actually amazingly simple, so much so that the core of it is taught to children as the basics of playing nice with others and getting jobs done.

Does humanity want to be stuck on Earth forever?
If no, then how do we live on other worlds?

This is probably most easily accomplished by figuring out how to live here with an abundance of renewable resources and environmental equilibrium, then figuring out how to adapt and move that infrastructure to where we want to live.

What does Humanity need?
Well, in rough order of importance:
*Without Oxygen we die within seconds to minutes.
*Without Temperature and Pressure (shelter) we die within minutes to hours.
*Without Water we die within days.
*Without Food we die within days to perhaps a week or two.

Humans are also considered a social species, indeed, it is our sociality that is thought to have given rise to our intelligence, so being able to interact with others without being killed should be considered important.

So. We need to be able to provide all people with these necessities for life in a safe, easily renewable, and preferably adaptable fashion.

To know, first we must observe.

We cannot pass judgement, draw conclusions, or otherwise be expected to demonstrate intelligence without first having some basis upon which such actions can be reasonably based.
