- Good correction and counterpoints. How about the engagement that never gets to opposition with Islamacists?Sep 18, 2015
"How about the engagement that never gets to opposition with Islamacists?"
I'm not clear on the question.Sep 18, 2015
- I wasn't very clear.
Address this from the article:
_And yes, thank you, I know all about the feebleness of Corbyn’s opponents. But the fact remains that the Labour party has just endorsed an apologist for Putin’s imperial aggression; a man who did not just appear on the propaganda channel of Russia, which invades its neighbours and persecutes gays, but also of Iran, whose hangmen actually execute gays. Labour’s new leader sees a moral equivalence between 9/11 and the assassination of bin Laden, and associates with every variety of women-hating, queer-bashing, Jew-baiting jihadi, holocaust denier and 9/11 truther. His supporters know it, but they don’t care.
They don’t put it like that, naturally. Their first response is to cry ‘smear’. When I show that it is nothing of the sort, they say that he was ‘engaging in dialogue’, even though Corbyn only ever has a ‘dialogue’ with one side and his ‘engagement’ never involves anything so principled as robust criticism._Sep 18, 2015
- "an apologist for Putin’s imperial aggression"
Not exactly true. Corbyn condemns Russia's behaviour in Crimea but thinks there was Nato provocation :
"Russia has gone way beyond its legal powers to use bases in the Crimea. Sending unidentified forces into another country is clearly a violation of that country’s sovereignty [...] Still, the hypocrisy of the west remains unbelievable,” he said. “Nato has sought to expand since the end of the cold war. It has increased its military capability and expenditure. It operates way beyond its original 1948 area and its attempt to encircle Russia is one of the big threats of our time."

As for the Islamists :
Watch the interview, ignore the article.
On Holocaust denial :
My impression of Corbyn is that he's a true pacifist who wants to work with everyone. Probably too much of an idealist, and certainly ends up associating with some unsavoury characters, but I respect his principles. It seems to me that there is a smear campaign at work to paint him as holding views which are opposite to what he really holds.Sep 18, 2015
- As I commented yesterday, I was impressed with his candor in the interview you posted the other day.
It does seem odd that he'll give an interview to Iranian controlled media, but not to Murdoch papers, but perhaps he feels there's more possibility of changing hearts in Iran. :-)Sep 18, 2015
