Why you should start massaging your face today!
We all are probably well aware that it is essential to exfoliate at least once a week. It is also important to use sunscreen every day, rain or shine (Nobody wants those pesky free radicals & UVB/UVA rays attacking our lovely skin!). But do you know that massaging your face is essential for healthy, youthful skin? It does not have to be every day, but 1-2 times a week is a good place to start. Here are just some benefits to get you inspired:

Increases circulation (blood flow) to the face
Increases collagen production
Allows for maximum penetration of products specially when using gentle tapping motions
Decongests oily-prone areas
Relieves tension & thus minimizing the appearance of fine line & wrinkles
Tones your facial muscles for a more defined jawline, plumper cheeks & puff free eyes
And more!

Now how do you perform this facial massage? There are 3 keys steps that are best performed in the shower. The shower acts as an alternative to a facial steamer which will prep your skin for the massage.

Start off by massaging your face using circular, upward motions. Use your index and middle fingers of both hands. We recommend starting at the forehead and working your way down to your chin. Make sure the motions are firm so that you can feel your muscles getting a workout!
Follow up by massaging your face using zig zag motions. Starting from forehead to chin. Zig zag motion can be performed using index and middle fingers of both hands. Left fingers will move towards the middle of the face, while right fingers will move towards the outer part of the face. Both in parallel opposite directions.  
End with tapping motions. Make sure the motions are firm. Use all of your fingers (except thumb). When tapping face, pretend you are playing a piano. You want to use this motion all over your face.
Performing these 3 simple massage techniques will help to maintain your skin vibrant, healthy and toned. You can always emphasize any of these techniques on problem areas like jowls & crow’s feet. Let me know how they worked for you.

Here are some of our frequently asked questions regarding glycolic acid peels.

What % do I start with? We always recommend that first time users begin at 10% and slowly increase every month or so until desired results are achieved. If your skin is oily, combination, non sensitive, or is accustomed to peels, then you can start at 25% but we always recommend proceeding with caution. Always perform a patch test on skin to ensure that acid is not too strong for you. Please keep in mind that not all chemical peels are the same. Some can be buffered to reduce their strength. Our peels are pure and unbuffered, making them maximum strength.

Can darker skin types use these peels? With darker skin types, you must be extra careful when performing a strong procedure, because darker skin types are more prone to getting hyperpigmentation. Always take baby steps with peels.With glycolic peels, you want to experience mild redness and peeling. Any heavy peeling, redness and intense burning means that the peel is too strong for your skin and you should neutralize immediately.

Post peel care & instructions: Post peel care is crucial for successful results. Avoid sun exposure, use a good healing moisturizer, avoid hot tubs and hot water or heat on face. Do not use any other strong products after a peel. We recommend that you do not use makeup the first 2 days after a peel. You can resume makeup the next day or in 2 days if your skin is very sensitive. We always recommend that deeper peels be performed by a certified esthetician or dermatologist, because they will be able to more closely monitor progress of a peel.This product comes with full instructions on the packaging.

Step 1: Remove makeup
Step 2: Cleanse skin twice with Moisturizing Facial Cleanser (You can use your own cleanser and toner)
Step 3: Tone with Moisturizing Facial Toner
Step 4: Apply Pre Chemical Solution (Either 70% Isospropyl alcohol, or 50% Isopropyl alcohol/50% acetone) onto face, avoiding eyes, lips, nostrils. This will help remove any excess oil on skin.
Step 5: Apply Glycolic peel of appropriate percentage using gauze squares or cotton balls.
Step 6: Leave on 1-5 minutes. Watch for redness, if too much redness or pain occurs, remove peel immediately with a cold towel.
Step 7: To completely neutralize acid apply a 50/50 baking soda-water mixture using cotton rounds.
Step 8: Apply Tepezcohuite cream to help keep skin healthy and nourished while it renews itself. (You can use your own skin healing cream or pure aloe vera gel)It is important to avoid excessive sun exposure, sauna, jacuzzi, heat, especially 1-2 days after a peel.

Halloween tip: DON'T perform a peel or other pore opening treatment prior to Halloween, for this will invite makeup and impurities to seep into pores causing breakouts. DO apply a primer before any makeup as this will help to seal and protect pores.

6 things you must do tonight to get fabulous skin tomorrow

Brushing your teeth and setting your alarm are some daily tasks you most likely perform before heading to sleep to ensure a clean smile and prompt arrival to work.  Now what are some tasks can you perform that will ensure healthier, clearer skin tomorrow? Here is our list of 6 essential tasks to ensure beautiful skin night after night. Wipe away stress and pollution in a few simple steps.
1. Cleanse
We’ve all been guilty of falling asleep with a not so clean face. This is a big no-no for healthy skin, because at nighttime, your skin goes into regeneration mode. If your face is caked with makeup, sweat or dirt, you should not be surprised if you wake up with clogged pores, pimples and irritated skin. This step only takes a few seconds and it will make a significant difference in your skin’s clarity.
2. Treat with a serum
Serums are your skin’s best friend, because they are able penetrate deep into the skin targeting areas of high concern. For wrinkles and aging skin, we would recommend a serum with actives like retinol, argireline, matrixyl, chicory root, and hyaluronic acid. For acne prone skin, we would recommend a serum with tea tree oil, salicylic acid and soothing ingredients like aloe vera. For sensitive skin, we would recommend a serum with aloe vera, hyaluronic acid, ceramide and healing fruit extracts. Pick one that fits your specific skin concern and smooth it unto your skin. Massage gently until absorbed. This will help to increase circulation and maximize penetration.
3. Seal with a moisturizer
Moisturizing is an excellent way to seal your skin, allowing the previously applied serum to perform properly. A thicker moisturizer than what you normally use in the day is preferred for the night. This will help seal the skin better prevent against trans-epidermal water loss. When applying, massage product unto face, using circular motions until fully absorbed. This is an excellent way to sneak in your daily facial massage.
4. Rejuvenate with an eye cream or serum
It is said that your eyes are the windows to your soul. With that being said, bring on all the eye creams you can get a hold on! For dark circles and puffiness, we would recommend a serum with caffeine extract, eyeseryl and hyaluronic acid. For crow’s feet and other fine lines and wrinkles, we would suggest a cream with snap-8 and Inyline solution.  Using your ring finger, dab a small amount of product under eye and glide from inner eye along the orbital bone towards the outer eye.
5. Pull your hair back.
Did you know that your hair harbors oils and bacteria that can be causing you breakouts in the morning? We recommend sectioning hair and twisting it on top of your head. You can hold with pins, or tie all sections together with a hair tie. This will also give your hair a nice wave to it in the morning with added volume!
6. Change that pillow case
You should change your pillow case at least once a week. All of that slobber, sweat and oils that are left behind can only accumulate and create a fertile ground for bacteria. A clean pillow case will ensure that all of your hard work preparing for bedtime will not go to waste.

Top 5 ways to use coffee beans

This is a must read post for all you coffee lovers! Even for those who do not drink coffee regularly, I’m sure you will be inspired by these diy ways to repurpose coffee grounds. So let’s brew that pot of coffee in honor of these top 5 ideas.
1.        Scrub away pots & pans
Add a few spoons of coffee grounds to a cheese cloth or dish cloth. Tie at the end with a rubber band or a hair tie. Now you can scrub away without worrying about scratching your dishware.
2.        Eliminate refrigerator smells
Pour a cup full of coffee grounds unto a dish or cup and find a nice place in the refrigerator for it. Just like baking soda, coffee grounds naturally help to eliminate odors.
3.        Fertilize your plants
Coffee grounds are excellent nitrogen rich fertilizers that can be added to your home garden. We would recommend using in your garden if you have azaleas, hydrangeas, rhododendrons, camellias, roses, or other acid loving plants. In addition, they help to attract worms while repelling slugs, nails, ants & even cats (if mixed with dry orange peels)!
4.        Make Energizing Candles
Add 1 cup of wax candle remnants, to a small metal or heat safe glass bowl. Place over the top of a small saucepan that has already been filled halfway with water. Bring water to a simmer and keep a close eye on your wax as it melts (About 5 minutes). Place dry coffee grounds in a paper cup (about ½ inch from bottom) and place a candle wick in the center of the pile. Pour in melted wax, taking care to keep candlewick from being submerged. Let it set for 2 hours and voila you have a new candle
5.        Refreshing eye serum
After all of that coffee we consumed, it only makes sense that we would create an equally energizing beauty product.
