A group of work friends and I have hit about 10 of the east Austin BBQ shacks/trailers...once a month since a year ago today. Micklethwait's is our overall #1 when you combine their awesome meats with fantastic sides. No complaints from anyone... jalapeno cheese grits and potato salad are great... and frito pie was held in high esteem also. Definitely a good alternative site to some of the better known joints.

The frito pie is ridiculous good. They have homemade pickles and bread which are the bomb. The slaw and jalapeño cheese grits are also really good. Great experience and awesome food!

Never been so happy to get the meat sweats in my life. It's all excellent, but the brisket is other level.

Awesome pulled pork sandwich and brisket sandwich. Nice flavorful meat. I was not a big fan of the sauce but like I said the meat is very flavorful so it didn't even need the sauce. I would recommend checking this place out.

Best ever bbq I've had. Great atmosphere and friendly service. Makes me want to move from Minneapolis to Austin.

The brisket was okay; my cut was a thick slice, lean and a bit on the dry side, although the end pieces were flavorful. The tangy BBQ sauce helped. The pulled pork: tasty, it was the best of the meats I tried. The sausage was not good, lacking in flavor despite the chunks of fat throughout. The jalapeno cheese grits is a winner! This is the best side dish from a BBQ place that I've ever had. The potato salad is similar to what you might find in the refrigerated deli case at your grocery store. Skip it and get a double portion of the grits. The housemade pickle slices and made-in-house bread were both terrific!

Delicious barbecue and totally awesome sides too. We had Mark from Micklethwait cater our wedding and it was perfect. So many people said it was the best wedding food they ever had.

Come here if you're hungry and don't want to wait like at some of the other hot barbecue joints in east Austin. I wouldn't say that this is the best BBQ you can get in Austin, but for the price and shear weight of their plates, I'd say it's one of the better quantity for quality you can get besides from Kerlin's.
