My latest piece for +Tourisme Montréal,  about the blockbuster Robert #Mapplethorpe exhibition which opens at the +Musée des beaux-arts de Montréal on Sep 10: Everything you need to know, plus a behind-the-scenes peek with #MBAM curator Diane Charbonneau. As Mapplethorpe once famously said, “I am looking for perfection in form. I do that with portraits. I do it with #cocks. I do it with flowers.”
the Montréal Museum of Fine Arts celebrates everything Mapplethorpe in its new blockbuster exhibition Focus: Perfection – Robert Mapplethorpe.

"To me, every day is #Pride. I think heterosexuals should march in #Provincetown because they are the minority! Sometimes I like to go to straight bars, to feel like an outsider."
John Waters in 2016 (photo courtesy Admire Entertainment) Bugs's interview with John Waters originally ran in the September 2016 issue of Fugues magazine. The iconoclastic John Waters, who wrote and directed everything from...

My latest column for +Magazine Fugues, an interview with pop icon #JohnWaters, who riffs on Bridezilla bachelorette parties in #Provincetown, Donald Trump, #Orlando, #Divine and #Montreal's famed male-stripper bars, on the eve of his Sept 24 +POP Montreal  concert at the Rialto Theatre
The iconoclastic John Waters, who wrote and directed everything from Pink Flamingos to the original Hairspray, was once dubbed “The Pope of Trash” by no less than William Burroughs. Waters is also lovingly called The Prince of Puke, The Duke of Dirt and The Sultan of Sleaze. I first interviewed h (...)

My latest piece for #CurtainsUp , an interview with the the #Opéra de #Montréal 's new Director General Patrick Corrigan to preview the 2016-2017 OdeM season which opens with #Aida on Sept. 17. Plus, +Roger Waters talks to me about the May 2017 #OdeM world premiere of Another Brick In The Wall – The Opera, and about the (in)famous spit at Montreal's Olympic Stadium during a +Pink Floyd  concert in 1977 that inspired him to write #TheWall .
The new General Director of the Opéra de Montréal, Patrick Corrigan, fresh from a 20-year stint at the Pacific Opera Victoria where he was CEO, is thrilled to be back in his hometown of Montreal. “…

The wonderful #FreddieMercury would have turned 70-years-old today (Sept. 5). Over the years, I have collected many memories and anecdotes from folks somehow connected to Mercury, including legendary #Montreal DJ Tootall of CHOM 97.7, Samantha Fox, Rob Halford, #MIKA, Marc Martel (of Queen Extravaganza - Official) and a well-known Canadian rock journalist from the era who prefers to remain nameless for this story: “He wanted to sleep with me,” says Mr. Rock Critic, who was befriended by Mercury when +Queen Official taped two live concerts at the old Montreal Forum on November 24 and 25, 1981, when the band had rented out the entire floor of a Montreal hotel. “He chased me down the hallways!" 🌈

My latest piece for the +Montreal Gazette  a fun interview with legendary Canadian operatic #tenor John Mac Master, whom I have affectionately called the "rock and roll tenor" since our first interview in 2011, because he used to sing in 1970s #Montreal and West Island bar bands. After a sterling international career—from performing with the +Opéra national de Paris to New York's +Metropolitan Opera —Mac Master this week returns to where it all began, at +McGill University
After conquering the opera world, Mac Master has returned to his alma mater to teach a new generation of performers.

From the #ThreeDollarBill  archives: My classic interview with pop icon #FelipeRose of #disco superstars #VillagePeople : "I don’t think I’ve made a point of being ‘openly gay’ – I’m just secure. I don’t sit on TV and talk about it. I’ve never done interviews for Out Magazine or The Advocate. My private life doesn’t play a role in what I do on stage. People always tell me, ‘You helped me come out.’ I always reply, ‘You did that on your own.’"

"As Michael Musto is to New York City, Richard Burnett is to Montréal." - The Montréal Buzz
Introduction
Richard Burnett has self-syndicated Three Dollar Bill in Canada's alt-weeklies for 15 years, been banned in Winnipeg, investigated by Royal Newfoundland Constabulary over charges TDB was "pornographic", gotten death threats, outed politicians like former PQ leader Andre Boisclair, been vilified in Jamaica's daily The Gleaner for trashing anti-gay dancehall star Sizzla (who would go on to write the 2005 hit song "Nah Apologize" about Burnett and UK activist Peter Tatchell), pissed off BB King, crossed swords with Mordecai Richler, been screamed at backstage by Cyndi Lauper and got the last-ever sit-down interview with James Brown. Burnett was Editor-at-Large of HOUR until the Montreal alt-weekly folded in 2012, is a columnist & writer for both Fugues and Xtra, writes the POP TART blog and "Seven Days Seven Nights" column for Montreal daily The Gazette, is a pop-culture pundit on CJAD 800 AM Radio and CURTAINS UP Virtual Media Network. Burnett was named one of Outlooks magazine's Canadian Heroes of 2009, famed porn director Flash Conway dubbed Burnett "Canada’s bad boy syndicated gay columnist" and The Montreal Buzz says, "As Michael Musto is to New York City, Richard Burnett is to Montréal."
