Do you suffer from depression or anxiety? How about both? Did you know that your get microbes can have a lot to do with this situation?

Read the article below for more information, and consider an excellent probiotic with lots of soil based bacteria to repopulate your gut diversity. My 2 favorite ones for this purpose are Prescript Assist and Body Biotics SBO.

Dear Friends,

We have applied for a 100K grant to help WPA grow. We want to be able to move to a larger space so we can offer affordable health care to many, many more folks, all whilst paying a living wage to our staff and acupuncturists. What's not to like about that?

Please consider following the link below to vote for our application. We need a minimum of 250 votes for our application to be considered.

Alert, alert, alert!  More traffic snafus for this week for you poor souls who are coming from the WEST.  Here is a Tacoma St. construction traffic alert for Jan. 14 - 16

Construction for a private residential project will impact traffic on SE Tacoma St. near SE 6th Ave. from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. January 14 - 15 and possibly on January 16.  Two traffic lanes on Tacoma St. will be closed during excavation for a sewer line.  During work hours flaggers will direct traffic on a single open lane on the south side of Tacoma St.  This work is not part of the Sellwood Bridge project but it will add to traffic congestion near the bridge.  Travelers may want to consider alternate routes such as the Ross Island Bridge to avoid delays during this work.

So sorry for this inconvenience...

Stress is the great destroyer of health. But how do we mitigate it? How do we change our stress laden lives?

Below is a fascinating TED talk on exactly that! Our body position tells our organs to produce various hormones at various levels. So, by changing our body position, we literally change our hormone levels.

In Traditional East Asian Medicine, this makes perfect sense, there is no split between mind/body, no separation of functioning of one organ system and another.

Do watch the TED talk linked below and change your life!

Tis the Season to eat sweets and celebrate indeed. More and more research is demonstrating how addictive sugar is and that it is more a driver of cardiovascular disease than salt. So what to do?

In East Asian Medicine we strive to live in harmony with Nature, in this case we would most naturally eat whole foods. So why not a berry pie or compote without added sugar, the berries are sweet? Make delicious, rich and savory meals that are a joy to eat and share them with family and friends! Try having special foods you normally cannot afford on our special holidays so that we are not feeding ourselves on only one taste!

There are five flavors in East Asian Medicine, sour, bitter, acrid (spicy), sweet, and bland. A well balanced meal will have something of everything and not too heavy on any one flavor.

Would you be able to create a natural whole foods celebratory meal? If you have trouble, try checking out Sally Fallon's 'Nourishing Traditions' cookbook for ideas.

Eat well my friends!

Vitamin D deficiency is shaping up to be the most critical issue for our long term health.

Let's face it folks, we were not designed to spend ALL of our time in our caves (homes, workplaces, cars). We naturally evolved to be outdoors for the majority of the day, hunting, gathering, socializing, or just wandering about. Now that we have created such unnatural indoor lives, our bodies are suffering!

Do you get enough sun?

Our thoughts create our reality. Stress is created by how we respond to events in our lives/work and the thoughts we generate as a result.

Stress is the enemy of health, so to learn how to manage stress is of the utmost importance.

It is a curious thing, that high carbohydrate diets cause high fat concentrations in the blood, whereas high fat diets end up lowering fat in the blood. So, to protect against heart disease and diabetes, eat a high fat, low carb diet.

Interesting and true, read the article below for more information.
