The idea for GrillSmith was born in 2000 when the owners of The Melting Pot Restaurants, Inc. fondue restaurant franchise out to develop a casual dining restaurant offering a truly gourmet menu for the value-conscious consumer.
The menu was developed with the help of some nationally recognized chefs who developed various dishes over the curse of multiple food-tasting sessions. Every Friday, the Johnston’s would gather together to test five to six new creations. Even children’s dishes were prepared and tasted tested by their children since kids always tell the truth.
The first GrillSmith location opened in Clearwater, Florida in April 2004. Today, GrillSmith has four locations in the Tampa Bay area: Carrollwood, Clearwater. Countryside, Lakeland, and New Tampa. The concept is currently exploring further expansion opportunities in the Tampa Bay and throughout Florida.
Over the years, GrillSmith has established itself as a refined-casual, chef-inspired concept that specializes in innovative and creative interpretations of classic American dishes that surprises the palate, engage the mind, and excite the senses.
