Regardless of one's religious or spiritual biases, the idea of immortality on a corporeal level is inarguably alluring to some, in theory. One man, Dmitry Itskov, seeks to make this abstraction a reality; not just for himself, but for the entire human family (or at least those willing to add to his idea).

Is this cause overreaching? Is this ethically or morally acceptable or unacceptable? If given the means by which to extend your life, possibly indefinitely, would you take the opportunity?

Voice your opinion, as it seems this movement will flourish regardless of public opinion; and I am quite interested to read the thoughts of others on this matter in any case.

Something I'd like to point out in this discussion (sorry if I missed someone else pointing it out already).  Being able to transfer one's consciousness into a machine is not immortality.  That's just a small view of eternity!  What happens when the batteries run out?  When we're out of fossil fuel to produce electricity?  When the sun finally goes out?  Even if one could travel through space, that energy source could run out also.  That next star will also burn out eventually too!  Then there's the serious problem of data corruption.  Anyone who's worked in computing knows that data gets corrupted over time.  Every time data is accessed it has the potential to be messed up.  Eventually all these things will lead to a breakdown.  There's no such thing as immortality.

I have admittedly found myself afraid for the future of language as a whole, with the perceived bastardization of language evident in short-hand or text speak.
My fear has of course not been soothed any, however I am content to know that there are indeed others whom are also concerned.

How did you set that up? If Google+ will auto translate all languages to English I'll do that.

Is religion, or religious belief, a pernicious virus?

An interesting video clip of [Richard] Dawkins on religion.

Thoughts are part of the contents of consciousness. Consciousness is a continual process as a electrical current and as a electromagnetic fields. Consciousness radiates into space. The brain emits constantly accelerated charges: our thoughts and our whole  Consciousness.
But our thoughts are not only electromagnetic phenomena that emerged from electrical  DC/AC currents as well as out of chemo-electrical potentials. Our thougts and the whole Consciousness have biological and social functions.
