"Don’t even try to understand the lyrics." from a great Jon Pareles review of Magma #LiveAtLPR in the New York Times.
This French band closed out the United States leg of its global tour at Le Poisson Rouge.

We are honored to be hosting Philip Selway, the drummer from Radiohead who is also a stellar solo artist in his own right, on our stage this Friday. With Adem as his opener and collaborator, we think this will easily be one of the year's highlights.
Four years after the unexpected and exquisite treat that was Philip Selway's debut album Familial, the man formerly known only as the drummer of Radiohead returns with his sophomore record, Weatherhouse. At ten tracks and 38 minutes, the album is as concise in shape as it is expansive in mood ...

The new Lightning Bolt is great. This video is great. I can't wait for this show.
Last week Providence's Lightning Bolt (playing LPR Saturday 5/16) debuted a new video for “The Metal East,” the opening track from Fantasy Empire, the duo's first album in more than five years. Made by NYC-based illustrator/animator Lale Westvind, it's an wild four-minute visual trip that ...

Tickets are flying for The Knocks DJ set this Wednesday so grab yours now and get ready to shake it. Popgun and Neon Gold always throw a sick party.
When it comes to origin stories, The Knocks have a good one. After meeting at The New School in New York City, Ben “B-Roc” Ruttner and James “JPatt” Patterson both found themselves in need of a place to live. The two moved in together, and quickly set about making their neighbors hate them.

(Le) Poisson Rouge is a multimedia art cabaret and concert venue founded by musicians on the site of the historic Village Gate in New York City. Dedicated to the fusion of popular and art cultures in music, film, theater, dance, and fine art, the venue’s mission is to revive the symbiotic relationship between art and revelry; to establish a creative asylum for both artists and audiences.

LPR prides itself in offering the highest quality eclectic programming, impeccable acoustics, and bold design. The state-of-the art performance space, engineered by the legendary John Storyk/WSDG, offers full flexibility in multiple configurations: seated, standing, in-the-round, and numerous alternative arrangements. The adjoining bar doubles as an art gallery as well. A work of art itself, the physical facilities are the embodiment of the experimental philosophy that drives the venue.

The show I saw was magnificent. The service was very good, and the chance to sit at a table and have food and drinks while watching a show is very civilized, and not done enough. The draft beer was very tasty, the tater tots were also good, but the salad I ordered (while hearty and very healthy) needed variety and perhaps longer contact with the dressing before serving.

Great spot for live music or dancing. Lots of bar real estate with a good range of tap beers. Can get annoying when it's overcrowded.

I came with a large group for Linda Loves Bingo on the weekend and had a fantastic time. Staff was very friendly, drinks were reasonably priced and delicious, vegan items were available on the menu. Linda was awesome, too-- I plan to go back!

90's night every Friday is the best reason to go here. Le Poisson Rouge (LPR) looks like the type of place I would avoid at all costs. However, they surprisingly have pretty awesome concerts here as well as fun events. McCauley Culkin used to throw parties here once a month with a different crazy theme each time and even though that doesn't happen anymore, it is indicative of the types of fun and creative gatherings that LPR has on a consistent basis. My advice? Check out their calendar and hunt for the next strange, intriguing event!

LPR is a fantastic music venue. I've seen many shows here - some standing room, some seated, and they've all been great. It's a very intimate setting, and it's great to see some very unique acts so close and personal. Drinks are reasonably priced, as is the food, although there's nothing fantastic about the choices.

Went for a show - got the tickets with seating. Seating around the stage was a bit awkward (the angles/orientation of tables and chairs) There are pretty good views of stage though, since the place isn't too large, so fairly intimate. I thought sound for the show could have been better - the music from the instruments was considerably louder than the vocals which was unfortunate since the singer was the main event. 2 item minimum (didn't really seem enforced) Food: The sandwiches were very good - spicy chicken was decently spicy and tender; French dip sandwich - moist meat, the dip was very light Cocktails for $14 and beers on tap for around $7 Service was okay. Settling the bill took a bit longer than I'd prefer.

Had an OK time. Ordered food from bar and waited a long time. Asked the security guard if he knew where my food was. When he asked the bartender the bartender bit his head off. Really rude
