GiveBIG 2013 is done! While we'll know our final total from the Seattle Foundation's stretch pool within the next couple of weeks, the amount straight from our donors today was $3,612, helping us provide our community with classes, programs, scholarships, and more. Thanks to all who donated and helped spread the word! http://ow.ly/l58kC

While we're sad to lose Brian McGuigan as our Program Director (although he'll still be around curating and emceeing events), we can't wait for the world to read his books: http://ow.ly/lyXcx

Seattle is famed for its coffee and Portland its quirkiness, but this is also a region that celebrates the environment and the arts, as well as being a home for Amazon, Boeing and Microsoft

Today's #FridayFiction is from 3-6PM PST. The theme is "Risk." Write a story about a risk your character takes. This could be a bold leap of faith or a stupid miscalculation, but either way, it should make for a fun story... http://ow.ly/lnr7a

Introduction
Richard Hugo House fosters writers, builds community and engages the Pacific Northwest in the world of writing.

Richard Hugo House offers classes, residencies and events. Through our classes, including our flagship program, Hugo Writing Classes, we provide opportunities for writers from age eight to eighty to practice and build their writing skills in supportive, creative and stimulating classrooms. Our residencies offer established writers stipends and/or space to support their work; in exchange, these writers hold office hours and consult free of charge with anyone in the city and region who seek their expertise. Events include our annual Hugo Literary Series, which invites established and up-and-coming writers to create new work and debut it here; and the Zine Archive and Publishing Project, which maintains a library of more than 20,000 handmade and independent publications.
