Honestly stumbled on this post looking for Colgate grads. I'm a little long on the tooth (58), but from a small business perspective here's my $.02 worth on this Facebook vs G+ flame fest.
Facebook time is family time, but the newsfeed commercials are beginning to feel intrusive and I find myself getting ticked off at them and at FB for letting them in. It may be targeted marketing, but it is pushed.
When I want to buy something I search for it- on Google. I reach out for the marketer. Not only that, but since Google decided to include G+ data into the new algorithm, I, and any other businessman who depends on being found out on a search is hence forward bound hand and feet to Google+. Google gets my dollars for advertising and now I must also give them my time and content to maintain "relevance".
Getting friends and family to join G+and include me in their circles is now not only a matter of convenience but indirectly, money. I'll tell them they are helping me out and we can do hangouts with video. I've been a long time fan of Apple and Facetime, but Facetime does not help my bottom line, whereas hangouts indirectly do.
So there it is folks, if you found this tidbit "from the trenches" useful, return the favor- put me in your circles!
And you, Will, do an old college alum a favor and circle me, for "Gate's sake!
