Smoking water pipe in a country like Lebanon is different than smoking in the city of Kuwait. The difference is the source of water used in the container of the water pipe. In Lebanon the source of water is from mountain spring  or deep wells which is slightly alkaline and with pH around 8. The source of alkalinity is due to the high soluble Calcium and Magnesium in the Lebanese water. In the city of Kuwait the water used in the container of the water pipe is desalinated water from the sea. It is a soft water with little Calcium and Magnesium and so the pH is around 6. It is well known that Calcium and Magnesium present in the water pipe can removes acidic gases such as CO2 . This means that smokers in Lebanon inhale less carbon dioxide than smokers in Kuwait.

The #Arab world is home to only one observatory with a telescope of one metre in diameter, everything else is smaller and hardly suitable for the exploration of the stars.

So a professor at #UAE, along with his two undergraduate students, set out to determine where would be the best places to build new observatories that would help make the region an important player in the field of #astronomy.

Up to 5,000 Egyptian children a year could be infected by Hepatitis C through their mothers.

More worrying mother-to-child transmission could contribute between a third and a half of all new cases in children under five.
