First Question: After reading Michael Meyer’s piece in this week’s Newsweek, share with me your thoughts on the fall of the Berlin Wall and the collapse of the Communist Bloc. Have the intervening years changed your perspective on the events of the Spring of 1989?

I cannot begin you tell you how proud I am that this country was able to accomplish such a significant task. This wall has been separating Germany for the past 28 years. After almost three decades of separation, the East German government has finally announced that the citizens are free to cross the wall into West Berlin. I remember watching the news that night. It will be a night I will never forget. Once again the country of Germany will be reunited. Families will finally meet face to face after a long 30 years. The fall of the Berlin wall represents the fall of Communism and signifies the end of the Cold War. No longer must the citizens of the world be afraid of the Communists. They will now live free and safe. I never had a doubt that Ronald Reagan would be able to convince Mikhail Gorbachev to tear down this barrier. After decades of living in fear, the Cold War has finally come to a conclusion. This shows that Democracy will always be better than Communism.
