Our son's school tablet, a Samsung Slate PC Series 7, arrived today. Windows 8 was installed (over the pre-installed Windows 7), but according to the instructions from the school hardware supplier we have to buy a key online, enter it on the command line (smlgr.vbs -ipk XXXXX-XXXXX...), then activate it. Wanna bet most parents won't get that far? (Then again, the kids are all 7th graders, maybe they can handle it.)

Our son's school started an electronic learning project this school year for the 7th grade.. and since our son is in the 7th grade, he's one of the guinea pigs. Along with an online e-learning platform and electronic whiteboards, they get to have tablets (i.e. the parents get to buy tablets). They rejected both iOS and Android, and eventually settled on Samsung Series 7 Slate tablets. We'll pick up ours (i.e. his) on Friday, they'll start using them in the classroom in January. (BTW we're paying more than the Amazon price, since we're leasing with damage replacement and school-approved system image.)

This British expat living in Wiesbaden has obviously misunderstood what Grünkohl is supposed to be... I mean, on pasta with capers and pine nuts?!? I'm sure +Armin Grewe can set her straight!

New avatar, from a drawing handmade by my son. I guess his current career ambition is to become a Simpsons animator in South Korea.

Just in case you haven't heard about the awesome Julia Probst yet. She can lip read German and English and live tweets about what trainers at the sidelines shout during the crucial moments of soccer games. So go read and follow her. She rocks!
