Our son's school tablet, a Samsung Slate PC Series 7, arrived today. Windows 8 was installed (over the pre-installed Windows 7), but according to the instructions from the school hardware supplier we have to buy a key online, enter it on the command line (smlgr.vbs -ipk XXXXX-XXXXX...), then activate it. Wanna bet most parents won't get that far? (Then again, the kids are all 7th graders, maybe they can handle it.)
Yes it was. They reason they gave us what that tablets were pre-installed with Windows 7 and that the supplier could upgrade the system to 8 but not the license. Seems like a roundabout way to do it, though.
