Reading that you'll be working on moving Django to github after 1.4 made me literally smile. Awesome news :)
Big news: I got the OK to spend a workday a week on Django! Let's get to work.
Its definitely been suffering a lack of strong leadership over the last couple of years. Its been in danger of becoming a superb platform for building last-generation web-applications: a relic of the pre-social, pre-mobile, pre-business-model web, with social, mobile and billing at best bolted on. I look forward to some strong vision and direction. Git, while practically a cosmetic change, is indicative of a change in seriousness, which is very welcome.
Thanks. It is very much needed, but I feel that people do not have any hyper marketing attitude for django, which only you can assist in pushing (i doubt if you feel the need, you can tell better). I am not sure if you agree to the attitude of ruby on rails or concerned.
