Jason Segel is sensational as David Foster Wallace in the perceptive "The End of the Tour." http://www.mercurynews.com/entertainment/ci_28590038/review-end-tour-tour-de-force-jason-segal
'The End of the Tour,' James Ponsoldt's perceptive and humor-laced film about David Foster Wallace, explores the crushing reality of fame, along with the jealousies and insecurities of writers in general.

Don't miss one of the best films of the summer: "The Stanford Prison Experiment." Here's my review.
This antithesis of a seasonal popcorn movie is a thought-provoking thriller of sorts and one of summer's best films.

"Batkid" comes to the rescue just when this hurting nation needs hope. #batkidbegins
Dana Nachman's documentary is uplifting without being manipulative by simply focusing on the story itself, of how what started as a small-scale event for 5-year-old leukemia patient became a global Batsignal for hope.

Need some good laughs? See "Spy." It's one of Melissa McCarthy's best comedies.
Melissa McCarthy, the funnywoman adored on screen for her crazy-zany rants, reteams with her 'Bridesmaids' and 'Heat' writer/director Paul Feig for a laugh-out-loud blues-chaser.

"Tomorrowland" dazzles with its visuals, overstates with its message.
Disney's latest family film delivers a hopeful message to budding innovators and communities at large, encouraging everyone, particularly teen girls, to initiate positive, mindful action to trigger needed global change.

Summer movies 2015: From "Mad Max: Fury Road" to "Magic Mike XXL," this cinematic season promises to bring enough sizzle. #madmaxfuryroad

Nobody does it better than....Ethan Hunt? You decide if "Mission: Impossible -- Rogue Nation" ranks right up there with one of the bet Bond films. Rebecca Ferguson should become a big star. http://www.mercurynews.com/entertainment/ci_28552002/review-rogue-nation-mission-impossible-franchise-finds-its
First 'Ghost Protocol,' and now 'Rogue Nation' show that the series has finally found the elusive balance of brains and brawn.

Had my doubts, but the minions can go from supporting characters to leads, and the gleeful "Minions" movie proves it. Love that cat in a burglar mask. #minions
The jabbering pill-shaped characters from 'Despicable Me' get their own film, and they mostly rise to the occasion. Sandra Bullock, Jon Hamm, Michael Keaton and Allison Janney head a great voice cast.

James Franco talks about his role in "I Am Michael," a compelling film about a passionate gay rights advocate's transformation into an anti-gay pastor. It kicks off S.F.'s Frameline film festival.
In 'I Am Michael,' the Palo Alto native portrays true-life story of gay rights advocate who suffers a spiritual crisis and becomes an anti-gay preacher.

San Francisco gets pulverized yet again in "San Andreas," a silly movie loaded with special effects and cheesy dialogue. File it under guilty pleasure.
Once again, the Bay Areas gets walloped in this silly but modestly entertaining earthquake flick starring Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson.

Buckle up! "Mad Max: Fury Road" is the thrill ride of the summer. It's incredible due to George Miller, Charlize Theron, Tom Hardy and director photography John Seale. #madmaxfuryroad
Director George Miller's $150-million reboot is everything you could want in a summer movie -- devilish detail, stunning photography, bold acting. Plus a feminist heroine and theme to boot.

I like a good superhero movie AND I like a good period romance. "Far From the Madding Crowd" is one of the best period romances to come around in awhile. #farfromthemaddingcrowd   #careymulligan
As Bathsheba, Carey Mulligan is perfect, with just the right combination of waifish vulnerability and iron will, essential in playing an upstart entering a man's world after her uncle dies and bequeaths her his farm.

Introduction
I love movies, I love to write and I love to work out and help others get into shape. So I'm pursuing all these passions at once. I freelance movie reviews for the San Jose Mercury News, Contra Costa Times and Oakland Tribune. And I'm a certified personal trainer, a TRX-trained instructor, and spin instructor. I'm a health coach and trainer at UC-Berkeley's RSF, Truve, and also work at the Downtown Berkeley YMCA. When I'm not watching movies, teaching, personal training, you'll likely find me out on my bike or running up hills.
