"Kicks" is the real deal, an authentic indie drama from a gifted East Bay-born filmmaker. Justin Tipping's drama takes a relatively simple premise -- a Richmond teen gets jacked and his Air Jordan sneakers are stolen -- and then plumbs how we define masculinity. It's a powerful film in so many ways.
