The doctors, nurses and everyone is so kind and amiable. They have your best interest and it shows. I would recommend this hospital to anyone. It must easily be among the best hospitals in the country.

The service at Dekalb Medical is the worst I've ever experienced. Last week it took me an hour and a half for a 10 minute visit. Today I was there over 3hrs for two visits that both took less than 30 minutes. I spent more time sitting and waiting in registration than actually seeing someone. This system is antiquated and no one communicates with you. A professional medical facility usually has notification to let you know if they're running on schedule or if they're behind schedule & how far behind. But here I guess the norm is to consistently run behind schedule no matter where you are or what you're having done. After my visit today I will NEVER return to a Dekalb Medical facility and I will be sure to tell my coworkers, family and friends.

Very courteous staff. Friendly doctor and prompt service. I went straight to a room via ambulance at around 6pm on a Tuesday. Doctor ordered meds then came to see me and ordered more specific meds.

Let's just say this: If I was dying and DeKalb Medical was the only hospital within a 100 mile radius I'd take my chances while finding another. They treated me like I was invisible when I arrived AND I waited SIX HOURS while having a miscarriage!!! I will NEVER, EVER, EVERRRR go there again!!!

My mom came here to get a couple of leg ulcers treated - she ended up having such aggressive treatments that she was left with severe side effects and more ulcers - one of which has her tendon showing through a wound - as a result of over-debriding by the doctor. I feel so sorry for her.

I had a horrible experience at this hospital and hope I never ever, have to go back there again. The nurses would take up to 45 minutes to bring my pain medication and had one excuse after another for the delay. On one occasion I had dozed off waiting for pain meds and the nurse left instead of waking me up so I had to call again when I awoke and wait another 20 minutes for her to bring it to me. On the afternoon I was released I had called for pain meds and she said it was too soon. I called 45 minutes later but when she arrived with it my ride home was there and she said I would have to wait 30 minutes after she gave it to me before I could leave and I wasn't about to do that so I declined. She said I should have called sooner and I said that I had but was told it was too soon for another dose. I couldn't wait for them to come and help me to the bathroom so I would go by myself but then I had one nurse telling me not to get out of bed alone and another one telling me I should be walking around, say what?, My oxygen hose wasn't working, the nurse fiddled with it a bit and couldn't get it working but the next nurse that came on a few hours later got it to work. I had two drainage tubes under my bandage but they did not change it when it was soiled which should have been done about every two hours. They would wait until my gown and sheets were soiled until they changed it and it was the next morning before I was given a clean gown and sheets. And I'd like to add that she stripped my gown off without a word and handed me a new one...how embarrassing, I would have preferred doing this myself in the bathroom. Anyway I finally started putting a towel around the bandage to cut down on the mess and make things easier for them cause I could tell they did not want to change my bandage. They put so much tape above and below my bandage that was so unnecessary I still have scabs and sores on my skin five days later from where they pulled it off. I asked them not to put so much cause it hurt so bad when they removed it and was told..."we don't want the bandage to come loose". Even the doctor said I didn't need all that tape, just one piece instead of ten. I kept telling the nurse I was having trouble sleeping that first night but it was 3am before she said the doctor had prescribed me sleep medication and it took her 30 minutes to bring it to me. I don't want to play the race card but I am caucasian and all my nurses were black. I have no problem with this other than the fact that they just didn't care about me or my comfort...I was so disappointed and uncomfortable during my stay I couldn't wait to be released. I was afraid to say anything to them cause they might treat me even worse. My daughter had words with them and that helped a little but not much. It was just a horrible experience and I should get a lawyer. So the head nurse calls me about my complaints. She says my bandages should never have been changed at all and just reinforced instead. What b.s. is this? I had two drainage tubes and she's saying they weren't supposed to change the soiled bandage that was dripping everywhere? What about germs or infection from the drainage? I've never heard such a stupid statement. I will ask my surgeon about this when I see him this week. Totally lame excuse if you ask me.

The hospital has improved drastically. They have friendly and courteous nurses and techs now. My mom was admitted on telemetry floor. I tell you it was heaven on earth. The nurses were really prompt in their pain medication administration. The techs were really nice too.
