What Causes An Air Conditioner to Leak Water?
An air conditioning system has two jobs. It must cool the indoor air as well as remove humidity. The removal of humidity is what results in the condensation of water. This water must go somewhere, which is why most air conditioning systems are outfitted with a condensate drain line to dispense the water. There are many processes that could result in leaking water from an air conditioning system.
Central air conditioning systems have a built-in dehumidifier. The normal functioning of the dehumidifier condenses water out of the indoor air. This water typically drains out through the condensate line. or the condensate line has an obstruction, the water could leak around the indoor portion of the unit.
If this happens, disconnect the drain hose from the coil, which is located right above the furnace, and make sure that it is not blocked. You could also have a hole in the condensate pan, which will require a replacement of the evaporator coil.

If you aren't 100% sure your air filter doesn't look like this, please check it! This particular brand of filth is the result of pet hair and burning candles.

DO NOT place combustibles (gas, paint, thinners, etc) next to your furnace or water heater unless you want a Halloween pyrotechnics display to rival that of any 4th of July show

That flue pipe gets VERY hot and is a fire hazard when combustible materials (ie- owners manuals) are touching it.
Please file these away or store on the return near the filter where they are safe and accessible.
