A great family owned restaurant that has been around for years. They have great lobster specials, also try their steamed clams! They are delicious. Estes also has options of #vegetarian eaters. The view their is a classic #Maine setting that you will enjoy. Would recommend this place for anybody!

WOW, WHAT AN AMAZING RESTAURANT!!! My kids and I just got back from Maine, where we pigged out on awesome food TWICE at Estes. I admit that after reading some of the other reviews, I was a little worried about driving all the way down there. But the bad reveiws are based on a prior manager, who ran the place (obviously not well) for a year or two. Larry is back, and he is great. He even gave my kids and me a tour of the place! If you hate the taste of rubber, because of the bands on the claws, go to Estes. Larry takes the bands off, gets new lobsters every day or two, pipes in fresh salt water from like 800 feet out in the bay for the lobsters, and everything is fresh and delicious! He also doesn't start cooking your lobsters till you order them, so it takes a little longer, but they come out perfect. My kids and I also had a Seinfeld/Soup Nazi moment where we had to sit down after trying the Haddock Chowder! I had never had it before. I don't even know what Haddock is. But Dawn (our server, whose family has lived there for over 100 years) recommended it, and we ordered it both times, even though the lobsters were 3 for $20! The only caveat... if mosquitos like you like they like me, dress accordingly at night, or eat inside.

This was a disaster, not only was the food bad they charge top dollar. Don't expect any of the extras... it's paper plates, plastic utensils and you don't even get bread with dinner. The only good thing I have to say about this place is the view.

This was a disaster. Over the last 30 years, we had been infrequent visitors to Estes and had always found it good. When we got there, they were crowded, but we were seated promptly. This 1st thing we noticed was the prevalence of fried food on the menu, about 35% of the selections could be ordered as broiled. Then we saw the notice that Estes was under severe water restrictions. This meant plastic cups and utensils. Okay, it is an island and they do have water problems. But, beer came in a plastic cup, wine came in wine glasses. That did not make sense, but OK. Being lobstered out, we did not order whole lobster, but did order lobster stew, which was near tasteless and had little lobster in it. Our party of 4 ordered various items, mostly broiled and nobody rated their food above tasteless. My lobster stew came with the entree, and my wife's main course (mussels) came a good 10 minutes after the rest of us were served. We were never asked if we wanted more beer or wine. After finishing, we sat for at least 15 minutes before we were asked if we wanted desert. We declined and then waited for the check, another 15 minutes (and the table was not cleared during that time). I was an idiot and used a credit card, so we waited for another 10 to 15 minutes for them to take the bill and process the card. Ou5r waitress walked by twice and made eye contact with me with me waving the bill folder and kept going. She walked by plenty of other times, but avoided eye contact. I then took the bill up to the register and waited there for close to 10 minutes and the multiple people behind the counter did not stops to ask if they could help. I then found the hostess and explained what was going on, and could she help. She processed my bill and as I wrote the $4.33 tip in I explained that rather than leaving no tip, I wanted the waitress to know that I had not forgotten the tip, but at $4.33 I believe she got more than she deserved. Go to the Dolphin or to Cooks, not Estes.

Sat outside on a beautiful late summer day. View was amazing. Food was quite good. Whole experience was very relaxing.

Had a great meal including Lobster Mac and Cheese appetizer (excrelent! I don't like mac and cheese, but this was the best ever), Baked Haddock Supreme (Newburg sauce was delicious) and for desert the chocolate Lava Cake yummy! I know I ate too much but this food is so delicious you can't help it. Larry Crooker has managed and owned Estes since 1961 and under his management it has always been great. the last two years Larry had a different manager and by the reviews I see the quality was diminished. But I can tell you that our meal, service and the grand view of ocean was all EXCELLENT. I would recommend Estes Lobster House to prince or pauper. Thank you Larry for a great dining experience!

I don't normally write reviews, but the experience we had at estes was such a total nightmare that I felt compelled to let others know. We arrived right at sunset (which was gorgeous) around 6pm. It took about 15min to get seated, not because there was a long line (there was no line), but because there was only one waitress/hostess working that day. Once seated we ordered our food (2 lobsters, a lobster roll and a pint of fried shrimp) and waited...and waited...and waited for 45 minutes. At that point, a party of 4 and a party of 6 that came and ordered AFTER us were served their food. One of them ordered shrimp and the waitress came and told us that they ran out of shrimp so they were going to give us fried clams instead for no extra charge. Then we waited another 40 minutes and the waitress was bringing out some plates...for ANOTHER party that arrived one hour after we ordered our food!!! When we asked her why it was taking so long she said it was because they ran out of shrimp and held our entire order until she knew clams would be ok for us. Another 20-30 minutes passed and we finally received our food only to find out that my fries were cold and on one of the lobsters both claws were already detached and the lobsters were lukewarm at best. It took 2 WHOLE HOURS JUST TO RECEIVE COLD AND UNAPPETIZING FOOD!!! After complaining to our waitress, the owner came out and asked us what our problem was. By this time we were so insulted that even when the owner offered the meal on the house, we just left. We had totally lost our appetites and I was so upset that I felt sick. Even though they were short staffed, everyone one else was served fairly promptly. Even one of the customers sitting next to our table felt so bad for us that he apologized! Prior to this we had such great lobster meals on our road trip at the Brass Compass Cafe in Rockland and the Boothbay Lobster Wharf both of which I would highly recommend.There are plenty of great lobster places around, Estes is so not worth it.
