There is still time to register for the upcoming conference at Great Wolf Lodge in Traverse City. A water park, lip sync battles, trainings, wine tasting, recognition ceremonies, competitions, camaraderie... all in one of Michigan's most beautiful areas.

Members of the Rochester Area Jaycees,
I hope this message finds you well and enjoying the beautiful summer days!

We are excited to welcome three new members to our chapter! Katie Mecsey joined at the June GMM and Kristin Garstka and Megan Pieczynski joined at the July GMM. We hope you have the opportunity to get to know these new members and welcome them as they learn more about our chapter and get active in our various events and projects.

We are also excited to share that Christy and Cody Hawkins welcomed their baby boy Mason on June 27. He is our newest Junior Jaycee and we can’t wait to meet him!

Dan and I and the boys recently spent two weeks in Petoskey with our families, which was wonderful. We also were able to volunteer with the Petoskey Area Jaycees as they put on the Petoskey Fourth of July parade and fireworks. We always enjoy being active with our second Jaycee chapter and support them in their community.

I hope that you had a chance to look over the digest that was sent out earlier this evening. It includes our upcoming events through early August. We’d love to see you at one or more of them! I’ll be making Facebook events for the events and sharing them on the Rochester Area Jaycees Facebook page (be sure you have “liked” our page!). You can also follow us on Twitter @rajaycees.

Also, I hope you consider joining your fellow Michigan Jaycees at the September Leadership Conference, September 5-7. It will be at the Double JJ Ranch in Rothbury, MI. You can camp or stay in cabins or condos. We'll be doing a lot of fun activities and competitions that go way beyond the traditional trainings at conferences! This one will surely go down in the Jaycee history books! To register for the conference, sign up on the Eventbrite here: http://goo.gl/PzVMQF

Hope to see you soon!

Yours in Jaycees,

Jocelyn Moellering
59th President

Safety Town Graduation Ceremonies
Safety Town is a two-week program for 4-6 year-olds that we offer through the Rochester Community Schools. Children are taught how to stay safe inside and outside the home. At the end of each two-week session is a short graduation ceremony where we recognize the children’s achievements. There are morning and afternoon sessions, so two graduations occur on the same day. We’d like to welcome you to attend one or both graduation ceremonies to show your support of the program and the children. The morning graduation is at 10:30 am and the afternoon ceremony is at 2:00 pm at University Hills Elementary School (600 Croydon Rd., west of Livernois, north of Avon). Following the third Safety Town session at the end of July, there will be two more graduations on Thursday, July 31, which you are also welcome to attend.

Historical Downtown Walking Tour
Take a stroll through time and join us for the Rochester-Avon Historical Society’s walking tour of downtown Rochester. The tours are perfect for new residents and long-time residents alike! Participants will visit historic sites and listen to stories about historic downtown Rochester. The tour begins at 7:00 pm at the Rochester Mills Beer Company at 400 Water Street (northeast corner of the building) and lasts approximately two hours. The tour is $5 per person and children under 12 are free. We will meet rain or shine. Look for the man in the top hat!

July 22
July Social: Hit the Decks
Join us for our monthly summer installment of Hit the Decks, which will be on Mr. B’s top deck on Tuesday, July 22 at 7:00 pm (423 S. Main, Rochester). If the weather doesn’t cooperate, we will meet inside. The chapter will provide appetizers for current and potential members of the Rochester Area Jaycees. We look forward to seeing you there!

Safety Town Graduation Ceremonies and Tear Down
After the third Safety Town session at the end of July, there will be two more graduations on Thursday, July 31 at 10:30 am and 2:00 pm at University Hills Elementary School. Following the afternoon ceremony, the Jaycees will disassemble Safety Town, pack everything into a trailer, and return it to the storage unit. We could use as many hands as possible for the tear down and if you can help us unload at the storage unit, that would also be very helpful. Contact Julia Webber at (248) 613-6875 with any questions.

Aug 7-10
Poker Room Fundraiser
Once again, the Rochester Area Jaycees will host a charity poker room at the Big Beaver Tavern in Troy (645 E. Big Beaver). We are looking for volunteers to take multiple-hour shifts to help us raise money for our many community projects. Volunteers will not be running games, but rather exchanging money for chips and vice versa. We require two people at all times, one of whom needs to be an RAJC board member. The second volunteer does not need to be a current RAJC member. There are three shifts on each of the four days:
12:00 pm – 5:00 pm, 5:00 pm – 9:30 pm, and 9:30 pm – 2:00 am.
Please sign up for a shift in the following Google Sheet: [http://goo.gl/OAbG2p]. Your help is greatly appreciated!

Join us in downtown Rochester for a night of good eats and a fireworks display! We will meet at Penny Black (124 W. 4th St.) at 6:30 pm for dinner and drinks. Then, we will walk a few blocks to watch the fireworks show at 8:00 pm, admiring the ice sculptures along the way. We hope you'll join us!

I would like to congratulate my chapter on getting recognized for our hard work on the Christmas Shopping Tour. This is a great honor and I hope it encourages everyone to keep up the great work we do bettering our community.
