Today is the Memorial of Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati. Social activist, Third Order Dominican, and Patron of young people.

Born to a wealthy family, from a young age he began helping the poor and needy in his native Turin. Inspired by Pope Leo XIII's encyclical, Rerum Novarum, a strong critique of unbridled capitalism, he helped establish a newspaper entitled Momento, whose principles were based on the encyclical. He joined the St. Vincent de Paul Society in 1918 and spent much of his time helping the poor. He was involved in anti-Fascist politics while continuing to engage in charitable work. He contracted polio and died in 1925 at the age of 24. He was beatified in 1990 by St John Paul II.

Today is the Feast of St Thomas the Apostle.

Thomas is mentioned among the number of the Apostles in the gospels of Matthew, Mark and Luke but it is in John's gospel that his significance is revealed. Firstly, he is heard encouraging the other disciples to go to Judæa with Jesus; then, not knowing what Jesus meant when he talked about where he was to go elicited the answer that Jesus was himself the Way. But probably most famously he was the Apostle notably unconvinced by reports of the resurrection of Jesus, causing Jesus to show him the marks in his hands and feet and side. Thomas then proclaims the words that have been described as the great climax to John's gospel by saying to Jesus, "My Lord and my God!"

As we approach the Feast of St Ignatius at the end of this month, we've got lots to be thankful for, but we're also conscious that there's lots more work to do.

Share this image to tell more people about our work, or perhaps forward it to a friend in an email.

Saint Ignatius believed that God could speak to us just as clearly in our imagination as through our thoughts and our memories. In his Spiritual Exercises he writes of contemplation as a very active way of engaging your feelings, emotions, and senses to place yourself in the scene described. Encounter Jesus in the gospels with our Imaginative Contemplation Exercises. #100daysoffindinggod #31DayswithIgnatius

We've been working with Magis2014 on some prayer podcasts. Here's the first of them, a prayer session for before participants leave for Magis.

Please keep Magis in your prayers, it's a great opportunity for young people to encounter God in all things, and to form a deeper, more intentional life with Him.

Daily Prayer for your MP3 player!
Introduction
A new prayer session is produced every day.  It is not a 'Thought for the Day', a sermon or a bible-study, but rather a framework for your own prayer.

Lasting between ten and thirteen minutes, it combines music, scripture and some questions for reflection.  The aim is to help you to:

become more aware of God's presence in your life

listen to and reflect on God's word

grow in your relationship with God.

It is produced by Jesuit Media Initiatives, with material written by a number of British Jesuits and other experts in the spirituality of St Ignatius of Loyola.

Although the content is different every day, it keeps to the same basic format.
