What’s your call on G+?  Will it capture the attention of the log & timber home community at large?

I must admit that I was a VERY early adopter of G+. When I first signed on there was virtually no activity, especially in the low-tech sector of log homes.  However, I saw in it the potential to unseat Facebook as the undisputed king of social media. G+ seemed to be doing everything right.  For many months, I posted regularly, commented and shared interesting posts from others and made a gazillion ‘friends’.  Not much happened.

Time passed and I found myself visiting G+ less and less. In fact, this post is the first one I have published since last spring. Don’t get me wrong, I understand social media.  Heck, I’ve written books and numerous articles about social marketing and I still believe in the ‘potential’ of G+ and if the truth be known, I’d love to see it crush FB.

However, here I am visiting G+ for the first time in months and other than a few of the faithful, I don’t see a lot of new activity or involvement. Is that my fault for not maintaining my momentum? Is it true that G+ seems to attract only the techies? Or…is it just that between Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and the rest of the social platforms, most of us just don’t have time to invest in another channel?

Frankly, I am amazed that G+ hasn’t stolen the FB base by now. On paper, G+ is light-years better than FB and has better SEO benefits. So why hasn’t it become more mainstream?  Why haven’t more of our community embraced it?
