Indian Railways tightens ticket refund rules : From July 1, 2013, you can no longer cancel a train ticket 24 hours before your journey and still claim a full refund.

The railways said it had also reduced the time wherein a passenger could claim back 75 per cent of the booking amount. For this, passengers will now need to cancel tickets six hours prior to departure, two hours fewer than earlier.

Even those with waitlisted or RAC tickets will have to cancel their tickets three hours before actual departure to get a refund after the deduction of a clerkage charge of Rs 30.

Looking at the recent devastation caused in Uttarakhand, Gurudwara Hemkund Sahib may remain closed for the rest of the 2013 year as the road links to the Gurudwara Sahib have been badly damaged.

Air India to launch Amritsar-Delhi-Birmingham flight from August 1 : Expanding its global network with Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft, Air India will be launching its Amritsar-Delhi-Birmingham flight from August 1. The flight, which would operate four days a week, would be the fourth between India and the United Kingdom.

"Air India's direct flight from Delhi to Birmingham will not only fulfill the needs of the ethnic community to fly to India direct but also help to develop better tourism and trade relations in general," an Air India spokesperson said.

The new flight would operate on the Amritsar-Delhi- Birmingham-Delhi-Amritsar route with Dreamliner aircraft on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, he added.

Indian paper artist Gurpreet Singh displays his special creation a paper model of the Golden Temple. Amritsar based paper artist Gurpreet Singh, creating art from varied items, moulding paper into exciting and interesting pieces of art for 11 years, has a whooping 13 international and seven national records to his credit.

The artist, an interior designer by profession, is probably among very few specialised paper artists in Punjab. He has created a miniature replica of the Golden Temple, Taj Mahal and the White House among others and has recently created a replica of the Great Wall of China to commemorate the May Day. Earlier, he created miniature models of Nankana Sahib, the smallest turban weighing seven grams and other symbols of Sikh heritage. 

“My aim is to promote the culture and heritage of Sikhism through my art. I have displayed my work at various art exhibitions and festivals across the country and my works have been appreciated,” he says.

Gurudwara Hemkund Sahib to be opened for Darshans from May 25, 2013 : Nagar Kirtan from Govind Ghat to Govind Dham will be on May 24 and from Govind Dham to Gurudwara Hemkund Sahib on May 25.
