Rachel Schain, singer-songwriter from Wilmington, DE, creates songs
of fearlessness - she is unafraid in the face of adversity, and unafraid
to feel happiness, too. Her lyrics resonate with struggle and
joi-de-vivre, accompanied by catchy melodies that listeners find
themselves humming well after the tracks end.
TECHNICAL PRECISION, EMOTIONAL CONNECTION
A trained singer, graduating from Binghamton University with a degree in voice, Schain moves easily between angst, exuberance, self-doubt and confidence in her songs. Her emotional range has been compared to Joni Mitchell and Dar Williams. Whether by herself on acoustic guitar, or backed by a three-piece band, Schain's music forms a sophisticated counterpoint to her vocals.
"Schain has a big heart. And you can hear that in her writing and best of all when she's performing live." Charlie Silvestri, host, Up Close and Acoustic.
Schain counts Blues Traveler, Kate Miller-Heidke, Ben Folds, Rufus Wainwright, Elvis Costello and OK Go as her musical influences and these are apparent in her rhythmic ability. Not another 'girl-with-guitar,' Schain brings something special to the genre.
Schain is a capable performer, with skills honed by years of performing in diverse venues - intimate Lower East Side New York clubs, open mics in beer-soaked bars, and listening rooms in Chicago, Washington, DC and Wilmington, Delaware. She captures the audience's attention from the start with her powerful, professional stage presence. A gig with Schain is guaranteed to be a good time for the audience, as they respond to her remarks between tunes, often nodding their heads or chuckling in agreement.
"Happy Happy is a sure-footed selection of pop songs showcasing the strong, sweet voice of singer-songwriter Rachel Schain." (Christel Adina Loar, PopMatters.com)
Her debut EP, Happy Happy, was released in August 2010 - completely selling out its first run in three weeks. The follow-up CD, as yet untitled, is expected in 2012.
