A recent discussion of CP over in +Tore Nielsen’s lane reminded me that Zoe is a total dreamboat and that my tee shirt habit could support her.

Something about feeling low sends me to Tom for stories. It struck me today how varied and deliberately separate his narrating “voices” are.

Don’t be mislead, they’re not periodic shifts in tenor as he gets older or his character acting “deepens” there may be stables of characters in periods, or if albums are close together...but time is not the only way these are distinct. Not even close.

There is something that recalls to me Schubert and his die hard parlor performances. Has anyone named all these characters?

The major arcana would be too simple. The magus, the fool, the emperor and death.

I wonder if he has named them?

This is my hill, emotionally speaking, and I think it’s as good a place as any to “die” ... at least I can choose that. I hope I never have another emotional ride like this one from a social media platform again in my life.

It’s been good, and bad, and terrible, and good again. Some of you people are the worst and I don’t know what it says about me that you surprised me with that. A hella bunch of you are fantastic and we’re already, mostly in touch.

RANT ABOUT ACCESSIBILITY OF A TYPE:
Something that I don’t hear a lot about when I hear design people talk or hell even when I hear fan / consumers talk is ease of use. Yes, in DIY land you get people who are trying to establish good practice, two page layout, minimal flipping, good art even in small publications. That’s not what Im on about (Savage Worlds, I’m looking at you from 5 years ago) ... I’m on about keep your art and your style for books meant to inspire or introduce me. Stop making me fight every inch to just read. I’m reading for fun make it easier.

Why am I cut pasting your PDFs into notebook just so I can read the words you made me pay for? Fuck your multi column layout! Stop making me fight. Please. I’m tired. I just want to run and play and enjoy your good ideas.

Yes your trade dress / branding is awesome, but I don’t need it for a play aid. I don’t need it for a play aid.

Yes, you heard me: IF YOUR PRODUCT IS DESIGNED TO HELP ME PLAY OR RUN I DO NOT WANT TO HAVE TO FIGHT IT TO GET THE INFO OUT OF IT.

It’s been 19 years or so since 3rd ed made full bleed, full color, graphic heavy, font laden, and picture wrapping and WATER MARKS THAT MAKE IT IMPOSSIBLE TO READ THE TEXT a big fat style. Fucking STOP it. Please. Or, if you can’t just stop it...at least make me some play aids so I don’t have to wade into a book that hates me getting at its guts to get basic procedural info. Why do you love your game creation more than you love me? Why?

What a terrible night to have a curse.

So this is good, but kinda boring me. It’s like the boring parts, Warren. Why? I’m all for the long play, but a long list of non sympathetic characters may be logical...and realistic but is it what I want out of my video game property cartoon?

I guess we will see how it goes. Please, TV, stop flashing me back! 😵

Had longer to consider Altered Carbon and I may raise it to a C+ and call it. Slow work day gives me time to think about why this kind of sci-fi always manages to convince me to let it in out of the rain even though I know I’ll regret it.

Spoilers if you care:

So, in the end I think it was kinda ok.

Favorite things:
The mystery was exactly as the evidence suggested from the start. (I thought about this a couple of days and at first I wasn’t impressed with that turnout but the more I thought about it, then more it became clear that whatever the show wants to be...it’s a detective pulp first.) Working out the particulars was kind of the point of the ride. Background elements like the war of the Envoys is exciting to me.

Liked:
Looked pretty good, “stacks” are kind of a neat way to explore the have / have not themes of the genre, I liked their casting of everyone BUT the main character. I liked the few procedural elements that were actually there. I like violence but the stakes were rarely clear or convincing.

Questions:
Okay, voice over? What the fuck. Did you learn all the wrong things from Blade Runner? Main character actor seems to have been picked for his...shoulders? Idk because the rest of the cast had to carry him. (including his “original” body)

The sister is the bad guy. That’s both perfect and awful and they make it as bad as they can. The “love” stories are lame. One love in the “fridge” and one who loved his sleeve...you could have played those and made them work but every time I see them, they’re smarter, more admirable and capable than our detective.

Why is he flashback episode the best one? One reason is that the war of the Envoys is much more interesting as a device than...who shot space JR.

Lastly, She-Ra is baller. That’s all.
