The Next Generation Leaders Forum 2017 wrapped up late last week in London, Ontario, Canada. Hosted by JA Canada and JA London & District (Ontario), student delegates from across Canada and around the world met on the campus of Fanshawe College, where they participated in hands-on workshops, learned from industry experts, collaborated as teams to find an innovation solution to a common problem, and even watched a personalized video from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. Meet Jurnis Lanuza, CEO of Hiraya, a JA Company Program headquartered in the Philippines. Jurnis and her team designed and created handmade handbags out of pineapple fabric and fiber, and at the most recent JA Asia Pacific​ Company of the Year competition, Hiraya won the FedEx​ Access Award, aimed at developing young entrepreneurs’ understanding of the value of global access to businesses and communities. This signature award goes to the team with a business idea with the highest potential to create jobs, grow small business, expand into other markets, and improve the environment. JA STEM Innovation Camps, in partnership with +Nokia, are intensive one- or two-day experiences that develop students’ idea-generation and collaboration techniques . . . and the top student team from each JA member country or area qualifies to compete in the Nokia Global STEM Innovation Challenge. This year's finalists included Sauna Lions of JA Finland, Nokia Solaris of JA Spain, High Clouds of JA Israel, Nokia Beyond of JA of New Jersey, and BB's of JA of Chicago. Francesco Vanni d'Archirafi, CEO of Citi Holdings and JA Worldwide Board Chair, participated recently in a Vatican conference that brings together business and financial leaders to respond to the needs of mankind. At the conference, Mr. Vanni d'Archirafi met with Pope Francis and presented a copy of the JA Worldwide Annual Report (available at https://jaworldwide.org/annualreport), as they spoke about how JA enables growth and economic progress.
