Since 1801, crews have worked to save the lives of holidaymakers who have got into trouble in and around the North Yorkshire Coast. The North Yorkshire Moors Railway - Great For Young And Old

There is nothing quite like a day out by train, so if you’re looking for a fun and unusual family trip why not head to the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. The line is a heritage railway that was first opened in 1836 as the Whitby and Pickering Railway. It had been planned by George Stephenson five years earlier as a way to open up trade routes inland from Whitby, which was an important port. The line closed in 1965 and in 1973 it was reopened by the North York Moors Historical Railway Trust so it could be preserved and become an important tourist attraction.

St Mary's Church - A Lifetime Of History

The Church of St Mary in Scarborough dates back to 1150 and is believed to have been built by masons employed by the castle. Within three decades the church was extended and another two decades later it was extended again. The expansion in 1200 added south and north aisles and then another large extension took place in 1450 when transepts and chantry chapels were added in the south aisle and a perpendicular quire was created.
