"Even before there's a verdict in this case, and regardless of what the verdict is, people in Silicon Valley are now talking," Lieff Cabraser Kelly Dermody comments to the Los Angeles Times in an article on the impact of the Ellen Pao gender discrimination lawsuit. "People are second-guessing and questioning whether there are exclusionary practices [and] everyday subtle acts of exclusion that collectively limit women's ability to succeed or even to compete for the best opportunities. And that's an incredibly positive impact." #genderdiscrimination #womenintech
She was a junior partner at one of Silicon Valley's most powerful venture capital firms. But was Ellen Pao a greedy underperformer? Or was she a victim of a sexist corporate culture?

A California consumer represented by Lieff Cabraser has filed a nationwide class action lawsuit against Lumber Liquidators, Inc. The suit, filed yesterday in federal court in San Francisco, charges that Lumber Liquidators sells laminate wood flooring products manufactured in China to consumers in California and nationwide that emit formaldehyde gas at unsafe levels. Exposure to formaldehyde is linked to increased risk of multiple types of cancer, including lung cancer and leukemia, as well as causing nausea, burning eyes, and nose and throat irritation.

"Lumber Liquidators is selling wood flooring products across the county that it says are safe and meet California's strict standards to reduce formaldehyde emissions," stated Lieff Cabraser attorney Kristen Law Sagafi. "The complaint charges that these factual statements are false and Lumber Liquidators knowingly misrepresents that its laminate wood flooring products meet California's standards."

The suit seeks restitution of monies consumers spent on Lumber Liquidators' flooring products made in China as well as actual and punitive damages and injunctive relief.

Consumers who purchased Lumber Liquidators laminate flooring are welcome to contact Lieff Cabraser for a free, no-obligation review of their case by visiting http://www.lieffcabraser.com/Case-Center/Lumber-Liquidators-Chinese-Laminate-Flooring.shtml

In an article for The Tennessean, Lieff Cabraser attorney +Mark Chalos from the Nashville office discusses the right to a #jury #trial in #civillawsuits , and how authorities are trying to take that right away from Tennesseans. Chalos writes, "Our legislature should reject the coordinated efforts of deep-pocketed special interests to convince them to take away individual rights to benefit a powerful, wealthy few." #TennesseeConstitution

This week, Lieff Cabraser attorney Kelly Dermody addressed military and civilian personnel of the U.S. Naval Supply Systems on equal rights for women in the workforce as part of a celebration of Women's History Month.

"Now in many industries, women are tired of pretending it is OK to be paid less or to keep quiet about problems," stated Dermody, the managing partner of our San Francisco office and chair of our employment practice group. "I am in awe of their courage and respect their choice to be the generation that says, 'no longer.'"

Lieff Cabraser today joined 378 businesses to ask the United States Supreme Court to strike down state law bans on same-sex marriage in connection with the pending case, Obergefell v. Hodges.

Commenting on the firm’s participation in the case, Kelly M. Dermody, the managing partner of Lieff Cabraser’s San Francisco office, stated, "Our firm recognizes that it is illogical and unfair that we are compelled by Tennessee law to institutionalize discrimination for our own employees in Tennessee even as they fight for justice for our firm's clients every day. We proudly join the other 378 employers -- often adversaries in our cases, but united on this issue -- to seek equality under the law for all marriages."
