20th Anniversary celebrations continue!

You may have noticed an old familiar song blare in the arena when the Stars scored their 4th goal last night.

We're gonna keep honoring our past by playing that song every time the Stars score their 4th goal at home!

Easy Chicken Recipe: Chicken Marsala

This delicious chicken recipe from The Midnight Baker is both easy and elegant. Fresh mushrooms are sautéed in butter and garlic then tossed in cream that's flavored with Marsala. Your family will think you slaved over a hot stove for hours.

Get this Chicken Marsala recipe here: http://www.foodista.com/recipe/HVSZQZWG/valentine-s-chicken-marsala

CONSIDER THIS: As Black History Month is coming to a close in the US.  From 1876 to 1965 Jim Crow Laws reigned supreme in much of America. For my international following unfamiliar with Jim Crow, it was America's very brutal form of social and cultural Apartheid.  This is American history, World History in my view not just Black History.

I am a child of the Civil Rights and Black Power Movements.  I benefited from the struggles of people willing to lay down their lives to create a better world for their children and the generations that would come after them.  Personally I never experienced the direct impact of Jim Crow but certainly I like many Americans have experienced the after affects of it.

Jim Crow was the law of the land for nearly 90 years.  It has only been "illegal for just over 46 years.  If you know anything about cultural change, this was not an immediate change and like all things it has taken time to get us to where we are now.  Are things better, of course they are.  Is there still room for social and cultural change, you bet'cha.

As late as 2012 we were still dealing with issues of voter suppression, the vitriolic rhetoric of right winged media, certain radio and television personalities, and racist characterisations of America's first Black President by those who simply didn't care for him because of the colour of his skin.

Yes, we have come a long way but we have so much further to go.  Although Jim Crow is not the law of the land in today's America, prejudice in the heart of those who hate anything different from themselves is alive and well.  The new fights for Civil or better yet Human Rights have to do with Gender Inequalities, Respect and Acceptance of Sexual and Religious Difference and Acceptance of the New None-European Immigrant.

I know this is a heavy and weighty post, it was meant to be.  In order to understand the contemporary issues of today you must understand the history of the past.  Hopefully, just hopefully it will keep us from making the mistakes we made then. America is an ever evolving societal cultural. For as long as this nation exists it will be that way.

So let us all get on with it and do the work to make this country what it claims to be in it's rhetoric to the rest of the world.
