Bought the Nik Collection without even thinking about it when Google released it for $150. Here's a quick test of Silver Efex Pro on a recent shot at Whitehorn Station (I've used SEP for a few years, so maybe "test" is the wrong word, but anyway…). This is my favorite type of toning — a duotone (or "split" tone) with the "ink" at 215° and the "paper" at 50°. Makes for nice transitions, e.g. in the sky gradient.

Nikon D600 & 24-85mm ƒ/3.5-4.5G (not the most awesome lens, but it's alright if you don't mind the considerable distortion).

As a designer/developer hybrid, the artist in me wants things to be pretty and inviting, and the programmer wants things to be efficient and clever. Those inclinations are all good things, but none of them is a good compass for finding the right way forward.

I watch this every few weeks to remind myself to stay focused on what really matters: the people who will use the things we create.

Jay Smooth's refreshingly insightful talk on discussing matters of race. So good. Don't miss this.

Voter fraud in the US is practically non-existent. New voter ID laws are a tool of oppression. Screw that. Watch this:
