Oops. I accidentally deleted ALL my friends from ALL my circles. I'm going back and re-adding, if you don't get a notice in the next day, let me know. So sorry!

He just dropped a new album. I have some older ones, Carenco and SOS: Save Our Soul, and they're fantastic. I now see he's released a couple more in between, I might have to go get them too.

Hooray! New DE music!

+Eric Karnowski and I have a new full-length set of songs (an "album" in old-school parlance). Cover image by +Bill Pusztai

It will cost you exactly nothing to download the songs. We would be ecstatic if you would do exactly that. Download them! Put them on your devices. Listen to them. Tell us which ones you like.

We're unabashedly showing our love for the 1980s on this one. Not that we've ever concealed it, but this is the synthpoppiest thing we've done, even when you factor in the occasional guitars. That said, it's got its serious moments. I count at least two songs about confronting mortality, for example.

Link is a bit NSFW.

I decided to try #hourlycomicsday   yesterday as a challenge to myself and a pal. While I couldn't get everything inked, I thought I'd post a link to the pencils here so that people can see the results - when you get to the bottom of the first batch , hit the "next" link for the remainder.

The book on formative assessment that I co-authored (for math teachers) is out! I'm still waiting for my copy but some of my co-authors have theirs.

The article below, which has been going around the last couple of days, perfectly encapsulates why I wrote the lyrics below a few months ago. Particularly the 'bridge' beginning "now don't you ask this question ..."

***

You won't see it in your lifetime
They'll never let you take that train
You won't glide this land in comfort
In sun, or wind, or rain
The Trans US Express

Now you can pack 'em in a tin can
Squeeze 'em through the sky
But if you wanna ride the big iron
Well, your chance has passed you by
The Trans US Express

Now don't you ask this question on Capitol Hill
Security theater, political will
The lure of the highway, the oil in the ground
The greed of the markets have slowed us all down

So if you're hip to taking rail trips
Well you're gonna have to wait
Til there's profit to be made again
Moving human freight
The Trans US Express

**

Since this song can be streamed for free, I feel less than usual anxiety about the appearance of turning the tragedy in Philadelphia into a promo for my own band. This is a cute little pop song that draws on Kraftwerk's "Trans Europe Express" and OMD's "Locomotion", not a blow against the empire. But it was born out of very same sense of frustration with the way infrastructure in this country has been deliberately dismantled. Frankly, I always think of it as an elegy for the great nation I was born in, problematic as it often was, which is now gone.

OMG. I just saw a commercial with this video, and I must have laughed for 10 minutes. This is the funniest thing I've seen in a while. Partly it's the boy, but then it's the girl... up to about 16 seconds in.

You don't need me to tell you that Image comics are simply slaying these days, but here's a great article on one aspect of why.
Image titles like The Wicked + The Divine, Rat Queens, Trees, and Shutter are showing that trans characters just make great comics even greater.

Introduction
I'm not a hugely private person, but most of my posts here are limited to my circles. Public posts that I do make are likely to be about my band, math, education, or gay rights issues.

If I don't already know you, or have at least interacted with you via a mutual friend, I'm not going to add you back. If you add me and I don't add you back relatively quickly, it means I don't recognize you. So, if I actually do know you somehow, you probably should refresh my memory.
