The University of Wollongong Library has just completed a project in collaboration with the National Library of Australia and the University of New South Wales Library to digitise a very significant early 20th century Australian art journal - Art in Australia. It was published in 98 issues between 1916 and 1942 and is now available on TROVE here: http://nla.gov.au/nla.obj-325167134?searchTerm=art+in+australia

Digitisation of unique materials - published or archival - is becoming increasingly common in the GLAM sector. But as we all know, the process of digitisation i.e. scaning and transforming a 2D/3D object into a digital form - is merely the first step. It is vital that appropriate metadata is attached and that the material (metadata and object/s) is then discoverable and, ideally, made freely available to support research, teaching and learning. With this in mind, and seeking to cover areas not covered by the bigger instututions, we at the University of Wollongong have over the last 4 years or so engaged in a varied and interesting digitisation program which involved material of local, regional, national and international significance. This group will off us all an avenue to talk about what we are doing, share stories and experiences, and seek guidance. Check out some of digitised material here: http://ro.uow.edu.au/hcc/. More to come. :-)
