PSA: All that security stuff in Google Play Protect isn't actually new. It's been around on Android for years. It's just more visible now -- which is smart.

Google's been scanning Play Store apps for malware since 2012: http://www.computerworld.com/article/2472262

The on-device app monitoring system debuted in 2012 and then expanded to offer "continuous monitoring" in 2014: http://www.computerworld.com/article/2475983

The native "find my phone" function came about in 2013:

And Chrome's Safe Browsing for Android was introduced in 2015: https://security.googleblog.com/2015/12/protecting-hundreds-of-millions-more.html

Those features were all easily overlooked, though, and most folks didn't know they existed. This rebranding and repositioning could definitely help fix that.

The Pixel Launcher from O DP2 can select icon shapes on a per-icon basis. This may not actually make it into the final O builds, but it's there for now.

I don't know why anyone would want to assign shapes on a per-icon basis anyway, so from what we can tell, it may have been something left over from internal testing that they forgot to remove.

With the arrival of adaptive icons in O, launchers will be able to select a general shape for all icons (so an OEM may say they want all icons to be round or square), and then the icons would show up the right way system-wide (launcher, share dialogs, etc.).

Also lol @ the top comment.
