Mas Malo can be summed up with two words (even though I'll take more): chewy chips. You might not see them listed on the menu, but you should always ask for a basket, and then get ready to order a second one. The salsas that accompany them are tasty, even if the rest of the food disappoints. The space is cavernous, and it's a good meeting spot for friends. Once you're finished, it's just a quick stroll up the stairs to Seven Grand.

Meh. Big space, mediocre everything else: food, drinks, crowd, music

Gourmet Mexican food seems paradoxical to me, but I was pleasantly surprised by everything at Mas Malo. The food was GREAT - I had pumpkinseed tacos and Baja shrimp tacos and they were excellent. My friend's salad was great too. The decor was reminiscent of old Chicago lounges with a modern LA flair - the juxtaposition was nice, especially when coupled with the 90s RnB they had playing (kudos to whoever chose the Pandora station that day lol). To top it all off, there's a stellar whiskey and cigar bar upstairs if you're inclined to have a drink after dinner, or if that's the trajectory of your evening anyway. Mas Malo is when bad means very, very good - can't wait to visit LA and go again.

How can you go wrong with Mash Potato Tacos! Great ambiance, very good food (if you like Mexican) and right in the heart of "the places to be" in Downtown Los Angeles.

The drinks are great. This place is always crowded and not in a good way. I mean can't even get from one end to the other, which just stinks if you loose a buddy inside.

Pretty good, seems like a way bigger space than it needs to be for a restaurant. The menu is pretty static but they may have changed things up a bit. Spicy margaritas are invigorating, habanero salsa will light your mouth up.

Really good Mexican food. It is reasonably priced with each plate being priced around 15 dollars. The ambiance is pretty hip so if you bring a date you can feel like you are going somewhere upscale without spending upscale money. Happy hour is the time to try their house margarita which is great on the rocks for only $5.
