Here I talk to Alice Waters, Ann Cooper and Sarah Wu about what has changed about school food and why processed chow still dominates.

I thought I knew all of the Eng family restaurants. But just this weekend I learned about this one in Garfield Park circa 1920s. No wonder I like curb side fried chicken so much. Anyone old enough to remember the Chicken Shop owned by my great grandpa Joe.

Welcome to Day 3 the Chicago Public School information hostage crisis. The district refuses to tell WBEZ what it really puts in those chickenny products it serves to children. No movement yet.

When I FOIAd Chicago Public Schools to ask them for the full ingredient list of their chicken nuggets, they requested THREE extensions on the request and then finally responded yesterday that the their full chicken nugget ingredient list was "chicken nuggets." WTFreak?

Anyone remember this old restaurant in Garfield Park? You'd have to be pretty old but I am trying to gather info on one of our family's earliest restaurants. Circa 1920-30s.

My 3 ingredient krautchi is finally ready and soooo delicious after three weeks. Just slice red cabbage, salt it to taste, squeeze it like crazy with your bare hands and stuff it in a jar with all the juice it produces. Drop a few slices of fresh garlic in there and close the lid. Burp it daily for a couple of weeks to release some AWFUL fermentation odors. But after three weeks or less it'll be ready to eat like pickles or kimchi! So good for you too.

Why won't Chicago Public Schools tell WBEZ what it's really putting in the chicken nuggets it feeds to our kids?

I chose to think of this a a whole salmon filet rather than a whole chum filet. In any case it was wild and inexpensive at Aldi. And with a nice mustard glaze it was thoroughly inoffensive. Decent texture too. Louisa Chu said she normally associates it with dog food in Alaska.
