What often happens (espescially with SUVs and Trucks) is with the longer trips you get more heat for longer time which brings up older gunk from the bottom of the panel and  ends up clogging the filters ergo the system is starved and overheating.Desert travelers often install expensif filters and additional cooling systems (fans) which help but dont do the job unless the oil changes are done the right way (Installing high grade filters, chemical washing of lines and oil tank, replace oil tank filter). It is quite possible that you would have been better off without the oil change before the trip because new oil when hot helps "braking up" the gunk at the bottom of the panel...sorry for the long story...love your photography.

What is a little narrow minded is to think that people drop their FF systems in favor of mirrorless ones. That could possibly be far from the truth since I have talked to at least 100 photographers of all levels in the past two years and the majority seem to use the lighter "package" on "difficult" trips and use the FF set for say N.America,Weddings etc..With other words people are willing to give up very little in advantages given the fact they are paying almost the same amount of money...FF or not! When traveling to S.America ,boarding an average of 7 to eight planes...the last thing the traveler wants to hear is that his carry on is to heavy and needs to be redistributed.
