Challenge - if you've been to an airport anywhere in the USA to protest #45's travel ban - if you know someone who did and applaud their actions - if you subscribe to #NoFearNoHate - please consider supporting this project. Can we make it to $500 by the end of Sunday? Can we make it to $1000?

Welcome to the new feature of my Patreon page - the writing prompts. These probably won't be DAILY - but they'll be frequent enough to keep your writing itch scratched. Some administrivia right up front - there will be two LL posts made for every prompt, one public and accessible to all (with just the prompt and maybe a few words of background or explanation or further idea layer(s), just the framework) and one patrons-locked, where I will be posting MY piece on that day's prompt. I invite anyone who cares to play to share the piece they wrote inspired by the prompt, in the comments section on the public post. But if you happen to be a writer - consider becoming a patron (even just the $2 level will get you there!) and start a real conversation about Living Literary with other writers who are interpreting those inspirations. Hope to see some more of you there!

To start us off, here's the first LL idea.

Christmas is just over for the western world, and it's already "so yesterday" - but for the Orthodox community Christmas is still coming, on Saturday January 7 to be precise. So we're still right there in the Christmas bracket, and before we leave it completely... what was the BEST Christmas present you have ever ever EVER had? (Or gave...?) Why?

If you are here at all because you have an interest in writing (as opposed to being an avid reader and that alone) I will be starting a new feature on this Patreon this year - Living Literary. There will regularly be TWO posts made on the page, one public, one patron only. The first (public) post will contain a writing prompt (and perhaps a few words I may have to offer on the idea). The second (patrons only) post will contain MY piece which was generated by that writing prompt. I invite you to attach your own responses as comments to the public post - but if you really want to have a discussion, please consider becoming a patron and gaining access to that other post which will be a truer exchange of ideas. Maybe see you down the line...? First Living Literary post coming up soon - watch this space...

Three weeks left and I have $8 left to reach 40% of the stated goal - $58 left to the halfway point! THis is the first real crowdfunder I've done so it's kind of exciting. If you've read and liked anything I wrote and want your name in the acknowledgments of this one as a supporter, pitch in just a buck to the fund! (but check out the levels of support - if you want the whole enchilada, easily done... :) )

I have a slightly weird (call it collector's item) thing in my hand. One of the books from a recent order of "Empress" iarrived beautifully bound... but starting from the second section, "The Two Queens". So what I have here is literally the second half of the book. :) I am going to annotate it. With STUFF. And then I am going to set it up as a giveaway. Well, I WANT to. Is anyone out there actually interested in winning an annotated half-copy of "Empress"? :) (anyone expressing interest here will be automatically entered into a draw...)

Most Western readers have a peculiar blind spot in the historical tapestry of European history. The Empire of Byzantium. There’s the Glory Of Rome, and then there’s the Middle Ages. Byzantium is a missing link, something that existed over there beyond…
