Read this if you think about going Paleo on your diet. :-)
Recently, I went pseudo Paleo. I say pseudo, because, like most things in my life, I've jumped in headfirst without putting any thought or research into it (this is also how I ended up taking a workout class called “Insanity.” Afterwards, I was drooling and delirious. So I guess it delivered).

"HOLA REALIZED THEY BASICALLY HAVE A 9 MILLION STRONG BOTNET."

"The worry for some users is not only that Hola has been leeching their bandwidth, but that their connection might have been used for illegal purposes"
Hola, one of the most popular online services for viewing blocked videos and TV shows from other countries, has turned its users into a botnet without their knowledge. The software, which is...

Mobile Isn't Killing Desktop. It's Killing Free Time.

The latest stats from Mary Meeker's Internet Trends deck (http://www.kpcb.com/internet-trends) show that desktop isn't fading much at all (in fact, there's more desktop use today than 6 years ago). But mobile is skyrocketing.

I'll probably have a few more slides to share from this deck, as her stuff is always superb.

A few companies just got full-disclosured.

"After realising I have a public key database of most users on GitHub, I remembered back to the May 2008 Debian OpenSSH bug, where the randomness source was compromised to the point where the system could only generate one of 32k keys in a set.

I used g0tmi1k’s set of keys to compare against what I had in my database, and found a very large amount of users who are still using vulnerable keys, and even worse, have commit access to some really large and wide projects including:

Spotify’s public repos (and any private repos those employees had access to)
Yandex’s public repos (and any private repos the person had access to)
Crypto libraries to Python
Django
Python’s core
gov.uk public repos (and any private repos the person had access to)
Couchbase (and any private repos the person had access to)
A ruby gem that is used on a large amount of CI systems (compromise of that, means compromise of your build server, and possibly your internal network)"

HTTP/2 is here, let's optimize: bit.ly/http2-opt - it's time to revise some of our "best practices"... We're no longer constrained by parallelism, requests are cheap, and we can simplify and improve the performance of our applications by removing a few of the previously necessary workarounds.
