My Wife and I used to eat breakfast here often. We stopped because their prices went up and seemed like the food quality went down a bit. We went back after a few months to see if things changed and were disappointed to discover they had not. French Toast (or what they call "Dipped Bread") $10.00. If you want bacon added, fork over another $4.00. That to me seems a bit steep. don't get me wrong, they have good bacon, but I can't justify spending $4.00 for it.

I apologize that you feel this way about the pricing. We have tried to keep the pricing at sweet melissa as competitive with other establishments without jeopardizing the quality. We have only increased the price of the breakfast menu once in the past seven years of offering breakfast although the price of food has gone up considerably. Our bread is local artisan organic bread from a small baker in Lakewood and the syrup is real maple syrup from Vermont. The syrup alone costs us 2.50 for each order. In addition we give a side of fresh fruit, mini scone and breakfast potatoes. We wish we could charge less but we would then have to serve non maple syrup. I am pleased that you enjoy the bacon. Part of the reason the bacon is so good is because we fry the organic apple wood smoked bacon in its own fat. It creates great bacon but comes at a cost. 12 oz of a pound organic applewood bacon runs 7.99 in the store. So about 12.00 per pound. We give a 1/4 of a pound of bacon with each side. We are priced at or lower than an other independent restaurant that offers breakfast. I apologize that you feel the prices are too high but unfortunately we can only do so much when we use local and organic as much as we do. Hope you understand.

My first time, boyfriend's second. The décor was nice, dining room was very open. Took 10 minutes for the waitress to come over and take a beverage order of brewed tea for my boyfriend, water for me. Our waitress gave us both teas. Had plenty of time to look the entire menu over for lack of service, but when Maeve finally came back, we ordered. Food arrived, food runner brought the water that I wanted, after I asked him (thank you, sir). I'm a people watcher, so I couldn't help but notice two guests wait, then leave while hostess horribly swept under dining guests tables. Guess she couldn't see them with her head down as she swept. Ah well... Pros: Food is delicious. Diverse menu and amazing looking desserts!! Seating is plentiful, picture window seating, reasonably priced, clean restrooms. Cons: Servers need a refresh on SERVICE. Wish we had known about the Lollipop sauce, hidden underneath those delicious sticks. There is no sign, pointing to the host stand for guests who enter through the front, that's a strange set up. Even the bar is weirdly placed. It should be switched with the server station (eye sore) because it is between two LIVE (in and out doors for kitchen), which makes no sense, if you're going for ambience at the bar. A bar is intimate, private, the focal point of a restaurant. Not the server station. Beverage service shouldn't be limited to servers. Management, or server on her cellphone, should refresh a guests beverage. I'd go back, but only for take out.

Love the food but the service is slow and the staff lacks a customer focus. Our last experience was frustrating enough to move this restaurant off our frequent visit list. A little training may go a long way

Food was really good. Decent selection of craft beers, skimpy selection of wine. Nice but small patio. Service was kind of slow and the staff wasn't bad, but they didn't seem to be overly excited to be waiters.

Took my dad for a birthday celebration. Food was very good, but the service did not match. We ordered an appetizer and when the server asked if we wanted to place our main order as well, I had a feeling she wouldn't do it properly (that is, don't have the entree served when your customers are still eating their appetizers). So I waited until we halfway finished and placed the order. Well, that didn't work either. We still were eating our appetizers and had our hot entrees sitting on the table. And we weren't eating that slowly. Neither one of us ordered food that would taste good nuked in the microwave, so we ate our cooled entrees. Second insult was that she never checked to see if we even enjoyed our entrees. She wasn't so busy that she couldn't stop by to ask once. She didn't seem happy to serve us until we ordered dessert. Maybe because of a larger tip? Because we would be leaving shortly? I gave approximately an 18% tip which was far more than she deserved. All in all, the overall poor service ruined a tasty albeit a temperature cooled meal that was supposed to be a birthday celebration for my dad.

I am sorry to hear about your service experience. We strive to make improvement and do on going training with the staff. If you can reply to with the day you came in and aprox time and some of the items that were ordered I can do some research to find out who the server was to get this addressed. Thank you, Matthew Ullom Owner

We have frequented Melissa's for years now and always look forward to the change of seasons as it brought with it a new seasonal menu. We were very disappointed that very little changed from summer to fall/winter. In fact some of the more wonderful pasta dishes, such as Chicken Milanese, Meatballs& Pomodoro and their wonderful seafood(mussels)& fettuccini are no longer even offered. What's left is somewhat limited and bland. We entertain quite frequently during the holidays and look forward to bringing our guests back. In fact they mention these wonderful dishes and they live in cities known for their culinary reputations. When I tell our guests that they have eliminated their menu of such dishes, we will be looking to the East side of Cleveland at restaurants that offer variety. Very sad about their lack of ingenuity on Melissa's owner /manager
